I’m a little nervous about his foot speed though

At his size,
i wonder if not having speed (like Gudreau for example) will allow bigger defensemen & forwards to knock him off the puck & prevent scoring opportunities

Not saying it will for sure,
but I’d be less nervous about him if he was a better skater

Kid finds space and makes it count. You can’t teach what he’s good at. I’m sold.

I know of another player you are quite fond of who isn’t the greatest skater either. This kid is a goal scorer, and I know you value goals over assists too. Let’s do it. Swing for the deepest fence at this point imo.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea
Just that I’m a bit nervous that he will be able to find the space in the NHL playing against men

If he were a bit bigger, or a bit faster, I’d have no worries at all
Kid can obviously snipe

It would definitely be swinging for the fence
We just can’t afford to strike out on this pick
Frankly,
most of the guys who i think will be available make me nervous for 1 reason or another

I’d be thrilled if Byram or Turcotte fell to us

Oh yeah, if turcotte falls to 7 you run to the podium. I see him as the #3 right now. I don’t think byram will be there at 7 regardless.

I think everyone has to adjust to the limited space in the nhl. Size is great for “creating” space but “finding” space really can’t be taught imo.

I think we are at a point where we need these top picks to be impact players. Playing it safe is very darcyesque. I’d like to see us swing and miss over taking a called strike 3 every time. What does playing it safe and getting average players (girgensons) do for us? I say go for it....

Yeah...
I'm ok going for the Home Run
It’s just gonna be bad if we strike out

This is now the 6th year in a row we are picking in the Top10
and the only guys performing up to their draft status are Dahlin, and maybe Eichel (he hasn’t exactly been “generational”)

I like Sam, but he’s not your typical 2OA

At 8OA, Ristolainen should be a sure fire top pair guy & he’s more a Top4 who we are now talking about trading

And we’re about at the make it or give up point with Nylander

If these guys had hit their mark,
it wouldn’t matter if we came up short here
*no pun intended

We really need to hit on this pick though

I don't need to know him to be absolutely certain that GMs don't run their teams simply by fan input. Why even bother having a GM at all. Might as well hire a group of fans and do council votes for every decision. Give us an opportunity to look like (frank)ing morons.

I know in 1994 I stopped at Maxines in Fort Erie with one of my buddies after a Bills game. He was hammered and spent a ton of dough in the back rooms, on the road home he sat in the backseat. About half way there I hear my window go down and he chucks his effing unders out the window.

I said, "What the hell was that?!!" He says, "My wife can't see what happened there."

I didn't stop laughing all the way to Rochester.

I'm not sure either of you are.

Americans are the most self-absorbed and corrupt people on the planet. I am so disgusted by how easily you guys write off a player struggling with addiction to prescriptions pills, which is a literal epidemic in America right now but yeah man he must be a weak loser.

Good god I cannot wait until the baby boomers finally die and let us finally have our country

I'm going to patiently wait for the "his defense blows and so does he for not playing it" takes once he breaks into full time NHL duty. Can't wait.

If Reinhart gets a long term extension this summer, it'll be for around 7M.

I actually want to see a team do this as a social experiment, just not the Buffalo Sabres.

Why?

Strengths

Deadly shot/release
Skating and speed
Soft hands
Willing to go to dirty areas of the ice

Under Construction (Improvements to Make)

Lack of size
Needs to improve on defense
Doesn’t like to handle the puck in the defensive zone

(To add) His scouting reports go from "very good" to "borderline elite". His foot speed is not a problem. He's able to shoot from area and make space for himself to do so.

This isn’t your father’s NHL. Physical play has been deemphasized. Smaller players can thrive now because of the rule changes.
South Jersey’s Johnny Gaudreau, the shifty Calgary left winger who is generously listed at 5-9, 165 pounds, finished tied for seventh in the league with 99 points this season. Chicago left winger Alex DeBrincat, who stands 5-7 and weighs 165 pounds, had 41 goals, tied for sixth in the NHL.

Both players are making lots of general managers and scouting directors shake their heads for bypassing them in their respective drafts. Gaudreau was selected in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 2011 draft — the Flyers took Sean Couturier (a home run at No. 8 overall) and Nick Cousins (68th) ahead of him.
DeBrincat was chosen in the second round (39th overall) in 2016. The Flyers took German Rubtsov (22nd overall) and Pascal Laberge (36th), forwards who are still developing but have been slowed by injuries, while DeBrincat was available.

Caufield is "similar to DeBrincat, and it’s not just the fact that he’s tiny and he scores a ton,” Wagman said. “He’s really smart and he’s able to find holes in the coverage. He’s not a perimeter player like a lot of small guys, and he’s got a great shot. He’s a little thick and he has strength.”
Wagman calls him a “good skater who has better wiggle than pure speed. He’s slippery and a good puck handler, but his shot is what’s key. I think he should go somewhere in that 10-to-15 range, absolutely.”

Will teams regret bypassing a chance to draft Caufield?
“I think there’s a good chance Philly will draft from that program, because they have a history of drafting from that program," Wagman said. Joel Farabee and James van Riemsdyk were first-round picks by the Flyers.

Can we all just shut the duck up about Tage Thompson?

He sucks and no one except for his mom and some Sabre’s fan even know who he is. Autocorrect doesn’t even know Tage is supposedly a name for a boy or a human for Christ sakes.

No one cares about him.if I had his extra tall jersey I would cut the name patch off and replace it with T. Berger as a really witty joke. (The T is for turd- get it?)

There are about 15 other poopty players in this team that need to be purged like a gif showing a felching skunk’s anus.

The Stanley cup playoffs are on tv and I keep hearing about Tage (frank)ing Thompson. Who the (frank) cares. If we ever even make it close to the playoffs in the next 50 years, he sure as poop won’t be on the (frank)ing team.

because they are soft.... they have that combination of grit, speed and skill. you still need to have it all. speed and skill is good for the regular season but when things get heated and emotional in the playoffs you need grit too..

Size is the only issue. If he was 6’0 195 he would be a top 5 guy. I’d take him at 8

hank haney is sexist because he could care less about women's golf

so if an nhl announcer could care less about women's hockey, is he sexist?

I don't care for any women's sports except beach volleyball and tennis
does that mean I am sexist, or a pervert?

I’m thinking over paying for Skinner is a huge mistake. Carolina did not make the playoffs one time with him then make the conf finals without him with virtually the same team🤔
