I looked at their cap, with the Stone extension they really need to move way more than Miller's $3 million to keep Karlsson
- Stripes77

Not a ton though, could just be Reaves and 1 more medium hit.

I think 6 years at $6-$6.5 per works
- Stripes77

There's nothing wrong paying a 2C at 6.5M, which is what he's worth according to Evolving Wild's contract projections.

Looking at recent contract extensions, they were dead nuts for Esa Lindell. Their greatest discrepancy was Brock Nelson, overpaid (by their projection) by 1M

If they can sign him for that, he's not moving.

7, Mittelstadt and Risto for Point, Callahan and Foote

Giving up too much imo
Gotta consider they’re also getting about 9mil or so in Cap space in that deal as well

Those projections are based on what the league values, not what's ideal.

He took an expected yet massive step back this year. Not just offensively but defensively as well. If this year is his "norm" Im not sure 6.5 mil long term is the right move, especially if it's going to cost you your best assets.

They're at $91 million

Subtract Clarkson going on LTIR they're sitting at $86,450,000

So they're $3.5 million over the cap going into next season

That's before re-signing Karlsson and say his $6.5 million

That puts them $10 million over without a backup goalie signed, plus some depth players they'll need.

They're hurting bad

Ideally no they're not

They certainly aren't going to let him go for nothing, but McPhee has his work cut out for him.

This is a good way for him to fill his cupboards back up with the picks he traded away though.

Not by moving him they won't, he has other pieces. I'd take Cody Eakin off his hands

I looked at it. It's manageable. I don't think they are hurting because they don't have any bad $ (not counting LTIR). They won't have any trouble moving guys, so I just don't see them getting fleeced.

Realistically they'll have to move Eakins, Miller, Reaves, and say thanks but no thanks to Bellmare coming back and then still move some additional salary to keep Karlsson and be able to sign a back-up goaslie and fill the holes made by moving those players (or any players headed back in those trades)

So many LW's

Skinner, Sheary, ERod, Olofsson, Nylander, Wilson, Girgensons, Smith

Nothing against CJ, but how does he make this team without losing a few?

- Lunaion

E Rod also plays center
Girgs plays RW too & can play at center
Olofsson & Nylander play both Wings
Sheary has played RW in the past
Who cares about Wilson?

It’s just a matter of where these guys slot in
If they don’t bring back Girgs & Larsson,
The E Rod is at 4C (assuming we sign or trade for a center in the top9)
3rd line could easily be Olofsson-Mitts-Nylander
Sheary could easily be a top6 winger,
especially if Skinner walks
So there is a path to Smith at LW4

But yeah... it would likely take some movement or him beating out Olofsson &/or Nylander in preseason

It's not like they have to move a contract like Okposo, but they have to move 4 players to make this work without bringing any salary back in those trades

Work to do for sure, but they are making moves from a position of strength, not desperation. I'd love to get Colin Miller.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do
Bc they have Eakin who can stay at 3C
And they have Haula coming back from injury who scored 26goals & 55pts 2 seasons ago for them
They could hold down the fort if they wanna trade Karlsson
With their Cap situation...
that could be the thought process until Cody Glass (2017 6th overall pick) is ready

If they’re willing to trade Karlsson,
he should be a top target for us

Agreed
Tampa will keep Point and move a couple of 4-5mil salaries instead

If they were to trade him,
they’d want a young “2C” like Mitts

It’s a long shot imo though

Ya. They are putting some prospects in the pipeline. As with them all, need to hold off on projections until they are in the NHL and prove out.

Do they run by the Sabres in 2 years time? What a poop show that would be.

The ONLY way I would be okay with moving Mitts is if they're getting basically a 1B center

Kind of like Briere/Drury

Looks up Point, Braden.
Sees: "2014 3rd round D, 79th selection in draft."
Considers Tampa's recent history of Scouts

We picked the wrong Murray

Al Murray is the Director of Amateur Scouting for Tampa (since 2010) and newly named AsstGM

He was also the Director of Amateur Scouting for LA where he helped build their Cup teams with picks like Kopitar, Dustin Brown & Quick (round3)

If i were Pegula...
I’d offer him triple what Tampa is paying him
Yzerman gets all the credit in Tampa,
but this is the guy who was telling him who to pick... especially after Round1

One of the Swedish defensemen I would think. Broberg or Söderström.
- PrinceChill

Byram is a Swedish defenseman ahead of those guys

Point definitely is that guy imo

But it would be pretty surprising if it did happen
Supposedly they’re high on Cirelli,
So Stamkos, Cirelli & a developing Mitts could still work for them

Especially if they wanna make Cap Space to go after EK65
*that’s really the only way they decide to move Point imo
