But he plays in the CHL.
Ergo, Botterill won't touch him. |

I've heard that, as well as "the lightning would never do it" which tells me I'm close on value - jcragcrumple
It’s a little more complicated than that
If they’re trading Point,
I think it’s to go after EK65
They could move other pieces & keep Point if their target on defense is Risto
The “experts” keep saying Tampa will at least look into Karlsson,
and that Tampa could be his top choice |

Point definitely is that guy imo
But it would be pretty surprising if it did happen
Supposedly they’re high on Cirelli,
So Stamkos, Cirelli & a developing Mitts could still work for them
Especially if they wanna make Cap Space to go after EK65
*that’s really the only way they decide to move Point imo - jdfitz77
I'd trade 7OA for point or wild bill Karlsson
Or any combo of assets. Nylander ect |

I think W.Karlsson is more likely
And that wouldn’t cost us pick 7
Especially if we take on other Cap from them
My dream scenario for this offseason is:
-keep Skinner
-trade for W.Karlsson
-have Byram fall to us at 7
-have Knight (goalie) fall to us at 30
-make a lesser trade with Tampa, where we take Callahan for a year in order to get a player that can join our top6
*i like a lot of guys in Tampa’s system too, doesn’t have to be a guy on their current roster |

Would have to be 1 or the other, + more obviously |

Agreed
Point is a 23 year old 30-40 goal scorer
He had 90 points last season would be near a ppg player here
Karlsson is 26 and is a 20-30 goal scorer and would be a 55-65 point player here |

Sabres should look to LVGK for both Karlsson and Miller IMO.
If they can't get Karlsson, then take Miller...which then makes Risto expendable for Top 6 help.
I like the rest though. |

Too bad st Louis didnt give us the 16th-18th pick. Jbotts may have been more open to moving 7oa.
We need to get better now. The Sabres brand is tarnished. Enough of : this guy or that guy is gonna be great. (For me anyways)
Move the picks if you can get Karlsson and Reeves from lv |

I get what you're saying but I don't think moving the 7th overall pick for Karlsson and Reaves is the right move at all
Karlsson and Miller might have me thinking assuming you have a deal worked out for Risto but they cannot rush this or we are in the same spot in 2 years with Eichel wanting out and wasting Dahlin
Botterill needs to be patient but not too cautious.
He can't go full Murray though either. |

Great article on Athletic about tanking and how long teams that have tanked have to wait and put all the pieces in place before getting success. Pittsburgh did not get a Cup until Mario's 8th year, for example.
After reading it I realized it is absolute lunacy to be parting with picks and prospects at our stage of the team being built. Giving up first-rounders and prospects is how TM simply brutalized our rebuild. Trying to add one or two pieces now (Point, Karlsson, whomever) by getting rid of Nylander, Olo, 7 oa, late first, Borgen, etc. would further deplete our already pitiful prospect pool and we are still not ready to pull moves like that.
Draft and develop. Draft and develop. Mitts and Rasmus (the good one) haven't even scratched the surface of what they can become. UPL or whoever is the goalie that gets us there is not even on the team yet. We have a few prospects that may cut it in 3 years but by then we will know more about who stays and who is gone from the current roster and be better stocked to make those trades at that time, assuming patience and a new coach pay dividends.
If we trade Mitts for a 2/3 C now that ends up being our next Okposo in 3 years I will absolutely be done with this franchise. Keep me signed up for the slow but steady build, please, JB.

Even if they don't have a trade for Risto worked out, I'd try to get at least Miller since I see him being more of a steady-Eddie for Dahlin. If he can't secure a reasonable return for Risto, keep him and see if Ralphie-boy can knock some hockey-IQ into him! |

I would take Miller for sure
But it would be for like a 4th or 5th rounder |

Are we going to be kicking ourselves in two years when UPL is starting in goal for Vegas, and Samuelsson is on the cusp of becoming a top 4 D for them while Wild Bill isn't, well, so wild anymore? |

I generally agree, specifically in retaining high draft picks. They will be gold when needed as Reino, Dahlin and others require new contracts.
However year 3 of Botts absolutely needs to take a pretty big step forward.
No need to sell the farm completely off, but making a couple of shrewd trades involving some of our suspect prospects like Nylander could help build the depth in Buffalo. Taking advantage of Cap-strapped teams for 1, 2 or 3 additions could be huge. Another couple of Montour type trades is in order. |
