Why can't they get equal Value?
I also think Brown will be traded and Zaitsev, another 7 mill.
I think they will only get picks. - bobbyisno1
They can't get equal value money wise if they are shedding salary. Brown and Z get's them picks. Who is replacing these players? They can't replace them with the 7 million they would be removing. Hence regression. Unless Dubas can fleece teams on multiple deals getting underpaid players in return for his assets. |

There is an article in the montreal gazette on the habs signing marner to an offer sheet.
Do they not realize marner would have to sign it? That would put him at risk of playing for the habs. Why on earth would he do that? - prock
in other news, i am in the middle of dropping a dreger.

Actually makes sense because Montreal is a sh!t team with a good coach and a usually excellent goalie. They will be just good enough to be the last lottery pick or qualify on the last day. Giving up 4 #15 to 17's for Marner is probably worth it. That said, the chances that a) Marner signs there and b) Leafs don't match are probably equal to the chances of winning the super 7 on a single ticket. |

Marchment can replace Brown and according to most anybody can replace Zaitsev. |

They have 8 mill next year plus the so called 3.5 its going up and Tim Hortons LTIR.
Plus Dermott and Hyman will be out at least the first month, more cap relief.
It's not as bad as everyone thinks. - bobbyisno1
Nope. Leafs are doomed because reasons. |

Kadri + Zaitsev + Brown for a 1st and a top 4 RHD would be ok. That would be freeing up close to $15 million for the RHD + Marner, if you include the Gardiner (don't let the door hit your ass on the way out) contract |

They're not really star players. It's not that much of a problem. |

Centre depth takes a hit. They will get under the cap, whether they improve or not.... |

He can get the same money anywhere. Actually with less taxes elsewhere. I doubt there is a sales pitch possible that would get him to sign with them. |

Any offer sheet that Toronto wouldn't match would give them 4 firsts and 10 mil more in cap room. Not a horrible consequence, especially since I don't believe Montreal will be as good as they were last year.

Based upon the one Marlies game I watched this year in the semi-finals, Sandin is not ready for prime time yet.

A lot can happen with him from now till September. Also, from the first two series I watched he was one of the best on the ice. |

Does your regression include the stars on this team maturing another year? Because Reilly last year for example is the perfect case for year to year improvement that you should expect from that forward group. Like I said the d gets a little worse...the forwards get a little better. |

I'd say Nylander will have a better year. He's already had two 60 point seasons, no reason he can't increase on that.
Matthews is the youngest player on the team. Nuff said there.
Experience and scar tissue matter. Teams have to lose in order to build endurance. That can't be understated in my opinion. |
