who was more important in mogilny's 76 goal season, alex or pat? - homiedclown
IMO, Alex. But obviously playing with a play-maker such as Patty helped but I would argue it's Mogilny that elevated LaFontaine's game to the next level, and if it weren't for the injuries, Mogilny would easily have had 750+ goals. Look at how long he played and how well he played despite having two shot knees (before medical procedures got more advanced).
Don't forget, Patty came here the season before Mogilny's 76 goal season. If you look at it, they probably just complimented each other perfectly, but at the end of the day, Mogilny was burying those shots regardless of who was setting him up. He scored 76 goals. Not the guy passing it to him.
Edit: Of course, I'd make the same excuse for Pat and his injuries, too so I am not hating on him. They are the two greatest Sabres that weren't the French Connection or Hasek imo. |

I watched it, disappointed that Al wasn't a bigger part, had him sick and dying the entire movie and killed him off in the end. I wish Hearst was the one who got it when they were stomping him in the thoroughfare. I thought the statehood part was going to be a bigger story. It was all about Hearst. Not good. - mhp
It was interesting, I liked it for the most part. They could've killed Hearst, but he was a real, living person, so they can't really go too far in what they do to him. I think getting the poop kicked out of him in the mud for about 20 seconds is as good as you're going to get, unfortunately. But in saying that it did feel a little disappointing. |

Are you including Nylander's contract holdout? Because Nylander's been really healthy - RogerRoeper
Yes. It's even worse, he chose not to play until five minutes before the deadline that would've had him miss an entire season. And when he finally did play he put up points at a 66% pace from the previous year, might as well have been injured. |

Al was a real life person too. Had a twin brother, owned the Gem, and died in Denver of a head wound. |

A lot of the characters were based on real people. I just meant in Hearst's specific circumstance, can't kill a guy who didn't die until 2 years later in D.C.. |

Odd because they had a guy pass away in Deadwood in 1889 who actually died in Denver in 1904......... |

Sure fitz - Boss34
Idk what that means?
You’re acting like there’s some HUGE difference between 8.75 and 9.5
It’s pretty negligible in the grand scheme |

I’ve heard that the most common metric between Cup winners is a great PK |

Chicken & egg argument
Did the goalie get “hot” and make the defense look better?
Or is the defense playing better & making the goalie look good?
Probably a bit of both
But I’ve heard some various analytics guys saying that the big common denominator in Cup teams has been a great PK |

750k is the difference between keeping someone like Girgs or Larsson,
Or bringing up Cj Smith or Asplund
It’s a no brainer
I’ll take Skinner + one of the kids in the lineup please |

Well you would just have to see if the PK is giving up a ton of chances and the goalie is bailing them out or if the PK is just not even giving teams the time of day.
It’s probably a combination of both |
