What a horrific contract for Skinner. Ludicrous. And I had to listen to morons all year say Nylander at 6.9 was just the worst ever.
- RogerRoeper

Right, Skinner only had 4 times more goals than was Nylander's pace this year.

Skinner's career high at age 27 is 63 points. He also has bad concussion history. Nylander is 22, healthy and never scored less in a full season than 61 points

The concussions have skewed his career totals. He also didn't get to play with Matthews.

Skinner has missed 8 games in 5 years, and only missed games in 2 of those years. Goals are worth way more than assists. There's no award for who gets the most assists.

Skinner's actually played in more of his team's games than Nylander by percentage, barely(I'm throwing out Nylander's first year too). Skinner's missed 10.9% and Nylander's missed 11.7%.

Why?

Sam had/has somewhat underperformed. (For 2oa)
Inconsistent going into last season. Inconsistent within the last 2 seasons.

If he continues improve, you pay him.

6 x 6 (6.5)

He's an rfa again. Doubt anyone offer sheets him.

Skins isnt getting 9 million average over 8 years

Sam has arb rights this time around and has more leverage.

Missed the part about structured contract? Bonus $ like ror?
- Boss34

Do u think bonus money would really make a difference all that?
Total $$$ & years is the defining factor imo
I’m sure the contract will be front loaded & bonus heavy (to prevent a buyout) no matter what

I hope so.
Will make it easier to trade to a Cap Floor team in the out years.

Methodical Botts getting it done 1 step at a time.
●Respected Coach in Ralphie- boy, seems like a bolded checkmark
●Securing Top6 LW, 40 G scorer, checkmark...bolded if anywhere near the $8.5m range

Left to do
□Secure 2 Top 6 players
○ 2C,
○1or2RW
□Secure a RhD for Dahlin ( I don't think it is Risto nor Montour, but I'm open to seeing if Ralphie and Smith can inject some Hockey IQ into Risto)

I have been pretty (ok very) vocal about leveraging Risto to secure the 2C, and still think it is the right approach.
As far as Dahlin's partner, would love to get a solid vet ... something like a James Patrick, or Teppo Numminen for a couple years. I thought Stralman would be perfect, but he fell off a cliff this year.

Can’t really compare the 2. Would Skinner sign in TO for 7mil x8. I bet he would

Deadwood time!

It better (frank)ing be good.

I watched it, disappointed that Al wasn't a bigger part, had him sick and dying the entire movie and killed him off in the end. I wish Hearst was the one who got it when they were stomping him in the thoroughfare. I thought the statehood part was going to be a bigger story. It was all about Hearst. Not good.

Skinner with an AAV of 9 per is too much imo. But I understand that simple man Lynrd Skinner and his agent hold all the cards and essentially have Botts over a barrel on this one. If he produces over the term at around 25-30 goals it's a bad contract. I would prefer an AAV around 8. He better not hit a slump similar to last season making that coin.

The good news is after this contract is done the Sabres will have about $20M in cap space for next season. Plenty to play with either through trade or FA.

Are you including Nylander's contract holdout? Because Nylander's been really healthy

And Skinners only missed 8 games over the past 5 years. Basically just pointing out that the concussion worries are overblown.

But, hey if you are so high on Nylander we have one you can have. How about Johnsson and Bracco for Nylander and Nelson.

Soft perimeter players stay healthy. Ones that hold out and miss half a season are a distraction. Either way, games missed are games missed.
Yeah, 9 per is overpaying for a 40 goal scorer...point made. Move along.

If Leafs caved and had him in camp signed he'd be making 8.5. That's how you negotiate long-term.

Would anyone take Skinner over Nylander?
