If Leafs caved and had him in camp signed he'd be making 8.5. That's how you negotiate long-term.
Would anyone take Skinner over Nylander? - RogerRoeper
get back to me when nylander scores 25 goals in a season, let alone 40
his high is 61 points in a season and you are acting like he is a hart trophy finalist
and his ppg was .5 ppg last season

Methodical Botts getting it done 1 step at a time.
●Respected Coach in Ralphie- boy, seems like a bolded checkmark
●Securing Top6 LW, 40 G scorer, checkmark...bolded if anywhere near the $8.5m range
Left to do
□Secure 2 Top 6 players
○ 2C,
○1or2RW
□Secure a RhD for Dahlin ( I don't think it is Risto nor Montour, but I'm open to seeing if Ralphie and Smith can inject some Hockey IQ into Risto)
I have been pretty (ok very) vocal about leveraging Risto to secure the 2C, and still think it is the right approach.
As far as Dahlin's partner, would love to get a solid vet ... something like a James Patrick, or Teppo Numminen for a couple years. I thought Stralman would be perfect, but he fell off a cliff this year. - IonSabres
I would like to see Scott Arniel and Mike Vellucci as Ralphie's assistants.
I don't see Wristoe traded unless Botts gets an offer he likes. If we trade him for a 2C we'll have a hole at RD.
I don't want to help a team's cap situation, only exception is Wild Bill. Gotta feeling it's Miller, Reaves and Eakin that get moved and Karlsson stays. I wouldn't mind buying low on Eakin.
I don't expect Botts to do offer sheets and anybody that thinks he will is mistaken imo.

nylander .67 ppg in nhl .23 gpg
skinner .67 ppg in nhl .37 gpg
only difference I see is skinner scores 50% more goals and did not have an all star center for most of his career |

This is a solid post.
I'll take Skinner.
If Laugh fans want Nylander, good for them.
When he gets traded this offseason, then we'll hear how he sucked from the True North |

I mean they add a hall of fame center, he gets paid big money and his production goes down |

If they were to tra zfs e Risto, and I believe they should...then on its' own there will be a RhD hole...
C Miller is being shopped, is 26 has far superior underlying metrics and cost $1.5m less. Give VKG Nylander and 3rd in 2020
Sign Stralman for 2 years at $2.75 per.
Let Stralman, Miller, Montour, Nelson fight to be Dahlin's partner.
May the best man win.

Somehow that was the "checkmate" post to a discussion involving a completely different player and senario
Nelson is 9th on our chart
Skinner not signing yet, despite reports |

Points don’t mean nearly as much as goals my dude. Assists can be secondary, plus I think we have enough play makers. We need goal scorers. Goals win games, if all you have is guys who pass well who scores? |

Honestly, this screams bad contract. Buffalo should not overpay and they will. Sam will have to be signed and soon it will be Dahlin with the big contract.
Anywhere north of 5M$ is overpaying. How can you pay him more than Pastrnak, Marchand or Bergeron who all makes less than 7M$. - denisbeauregard
I suggest you read up on the economic term "inflation" |

There are so many different directions Botts could go with this team this summer. Do they sign a few vet dmen like Stralman or Jordie Benn or trade for Colin Miller? Do they make the plunge at EK or Gardiner? Or trade for Trouba?
Then there is the top 6. Do they go after Wild Bill or Zucker in a trade? Is Eberle, Hayes or Duchene on the radar?
In my view I think Botts wants to keep pushing development within the team so aging vets will not be a priority to round out the roster. He needs roster surgery, make a trade or two that pitches development and a few low grade FA's to fill out the roster. |

While you do that read up on the term “marginal revenue” because the teams in the final are showing very well the the benefits of having a roster of players that are outplaying their cost. |

Honestly if they can do the following trades this season could be a playoff team
2nd rounder + CJ Smith for JT Miller and Callahan’s contract
Ristolainen for Zucker
Pick 30th + minor asset for Colin Miller
Find a place for Bogo for cap purposes
Sign Donskoi in FA |
