While you do that read up on the term “marginal revenue” because the teams in the final are showing very well the the benefits of having a roster of players that are outplaying their cost. - Pegullaville
Wow, you just jump at fricken' anything the past few weeks, huh?

This post gave me an erection.
I agree.
Point totals are an awful way to evaluate players - sbroads24
That's why we have primary point totals. Because home score officials are the worst |

Agreed. Primary points and on ice scoring chances IMO are the best evaluators of offense |

Points don’t mean nearly as much as goals my dude. Assists can be secondary, plus I think we have enough play makers. We need goal scorers. Goals win games, if all you have is guys who pass well who scores? - Carubba-Kaleta
100% this
If you had a choice between Ovechkin and Malkin, is it even a question that almost everyone would take Ovi? I will take his 35-60 goals per season over Malkin's 70-100 points per every single time. |

I personally think for a very long time the Penguins had the two best players in the world on one team. Translated into 3 cups. Malkin May have never reached Ovi’s goal totals but if he played away from Crosby’s shadow I think people would have appreciated him more. |

I should rephrase-
I think saying player X is better than player y because one had 60 points and the other had 50 points is an awful evaluation
Points obviously matter |

Nah, penalty differential is the most important category. Long live GAR |

Drawing penalties matter. Leads to goals.
My point always was that the difference between teams special teams isn’t that big to build a roster of “specialists”
But they matter. Boston will lose this series if they don’t straighten out the PP from games 1-2 |

I hear about Malkin being under-appreciated so often than I'm certain he is properly appreciated. Same goes for under-rated RoR.

Businesses operate at a peak when their marginal revenues equal their marginal costs. Marginal revenue is the additional revenue generated by producing one additional unit of production. Let’s say for instance Skinner gets his $9M. Now obviously inflation plays a role but most contracts are signed in comparison to the % of the cap when doing comparisons for this very reason.
The teams that have the most success maximize every dollar of their cap space or “marginal cost”. Mackinnon at $6.9M per a year is the best deal in the league. Naturally the best value contracts in the league are the ones given to home grown talent and signed early (see Boston, Pittsburgh).
Skinner would need to replicate his 40 goals every year to be worth $9M cause if his goal production takes a hit, we can see looking at his average assists amounts over his career, that his production would not warrant the cash.

I don't understand why he loves that metric so much. You've gotta draw from multiple sources and double check what is being accounted for and how much.
GAR is fine but it's not without at minimum serious question marks. No single metric is |

The hilarious part is before the finals started was criticizing Evander Kane for being a negative GAR, yet so was his boy through three series? |

Yeah but without Crosby, I don't see the Penguins winning any of the finals they went to. I still think they get there a couple times because of MAF, but I don't see them winning any.
Ovechkin has basically carried that team on his back for years and then Holtby came into his prime and even during a mediocre season last year (for Holtby), Ovechkin willed them to a victory in the finals. Yeah, the pieces around him finally fell into place, but Backstrom ain't no Crosby as good as he is.
If Malkin played away from Crosby, he would right now probably be the greatest player to never have won a Stanley Cup, and I'm sure his point totals would be slightly higher, too.
But PGH wasn't winning anything with a combo of Malkin and Staal as their 1/2 C. |
