I’d rather pick top 10 again next year and be a juggernaut the next 15 seasons and back up the brinks truck for Taylor Hall.

That would be horrible

Agreed. I was trying to find where his line was. There may not be a line.

Malkin and Wild Bill are going to cost assets and Duchene is gonna cost you 9ish possibly + on a 7 yr deal.

Malkin and Duchene puts us right back to the old “How many 9+ million dollar players can one team afford?”.

- dadeadhead

We can afford one more. Worst case, trade someone next offseason.

How would people feel about Sami Vatanen ( 1 year at 4.875), Pavel Zacha, and NJ's 2nd for Risto?

Jack will probably score 40 someday I don’t see 50

If you can add a 50 goal score I don’t think you can Pass up that opportunity

- gerbe75pts

Laine has never scored 50 goals, had a less than stellar finish to the season and put up a minus 24 on a top team. I’m not selling the farm and then paying this guy 10 mill a season, that’s not good business.

You and I agree on the old build the team from the backend through the middle.
- dadeadhead

I didn’t think teams ever strayed from that model ? Maybe I’m wrong

For those who want Marnier. How? I feel like you would have to go 11.5 to 12 to get him.

Normally I dont care about giving a player a contract and what others in the locker room think. However, I feel like Marnier at 12 while Eichel at 10 would cause some issues.

What’s the over under on when people start to complain about Skinner’s contract ? 2 maybe 3 years ?

I don’t think NJD would do that.

100 percent. But that is because its the cool thing to do. People complain about Reinhart, a player making 3.65 who had 65 points.

If they offer sheet Marner (they won't), and if he signs the offer sheet, and if they don't match (they would), Jack's feelings might be hurt? Not worth much thought.

If the Sabres draft one of
-Turcotte (not happening, goes 3rd to Hawks)
-Cozens
-Dach
-Krebs
All projected to be a 1 or 2 C.

Does that change Botts' strategy with respect to trading for or signing a UFA for the 2C now?

Personally, I would think it would at least be a significant consideration.

I would think by the 06/21-22 draft, he would have a solid idea on trade opportunities and a decent idea of UFA signings (vists start 6/24sh). Perhaps he'll have his 2C locked and loaded as use the 7OA on Caufield or Boldy if still there

I take the under. He doesn't even have a contract yet, and people are already complaining about it.

You’ll never have to worry about Sam being overpaid at $3.65M though. Skinner will be overpaid the second he signs that contract and 3 years in he’ll be a 30 year old, 25-30 goal 50 point player we wish we would have let walk when we are cap crunched.

Skinner has the speed where he wont drop off big time when it hits his 30s. This team is set up that they will not be in a cap crunch. By the time they are paying Dahlin, too many contracts all falling off the books.

Im sick of the argument in 3 or 4 years ahead we wont have space, so we should not acquire good players. Look at the results.

Not to mention the cap will have a big jump when Seattle enters the league, and a new TV deal. Cap isnt a concern right now. Acquire talent.

"Terrible 2OA pick"
"Can't dive his own line"
"Can't produce away from Jack"
"Garbage goals"
"Below average shot"
"Too slow"
"Parties too much"
"Weak in his own zone"

I think 5x5 would sound really good about now, for a bum like Sam.

If Sam could have driven an average second line, we would have made the playoffs last year.

Two bottom 6 UFA targets; Oscar Lindberg and Brandon Pirri.

Good bye to Larsson and Girgensons.

I was the one calling Sam a bust. He took a huge step this year though and he’s really growing on me. I still don’t think he’s a typical 2OA pick and I would have picked Draisatil but he’s a good player that we should look to extend long term this offseason using Nylander as the comparable.

If botts didnt trade away O'Reilly we would have made the playoffs last year.
