You’ll never have to worry about Sam being overpaid at $3.65M though. Skinner will be overpaid the second he signs that contract and 3 years in he’ll be a 30 year old, 25-30 goal 50 point player we wish we would have let walk when we are cap crunched.
- Pegullaville

U want to sign a guy (Hall) to what will be an even bigger contract (10mil? 12mil?),
and he’ll turn 30 at the start of year TWO

If it’s a bad idea to sign a 27year old to that type deal...
then it’s a really bad idea to sign a 29year old to an even bigger deal

In Jack's first two years (before he signed his extension) he put up 56pts in 81 games and then 57pts in 61 games. Is that $80M worth at that time or even now? The year after he signed the extension, the last year of his elc, he put up 64pts in 67 games. Is that worth $80M then, or even now?
I'm not running him out of town or talking poop or hating on him, but let's be real. He should've come in at 2M or more less aav imo. Unleash the skinner defenders, go ahead and shoot me if you want to kill the messenger. It is what it is, the comps don't lie.

The thing with Eichel is you take the chance now and pay him against the chances that after a 3 year bridge deal he doesn't demand more, not only because of natural inflation, Seattle will be coming in and that will jack up the cap-no pun intended-, but also natural progression in Jack's game. It's a risk, to be sure, but I believe it's the correct call.

Cap situation would really get dicey if Eichel was on a 3 yr bridge

Never said eichel was not the best sabre on the roster

Not sure where this hate is coming from

If wanting him to grow up a little is too much to ask
then what is the point of anyone posting anything about the sabres in an offseason

- homiedclown

This is a bit silly.

You post for days saying “Ask the bartenders around Buffalo, Jack doesn’t care about winning, he’s worse than Roy and Connolly.”

Then when you get called for tearing him down, you minimize that ridiculous take by saying “I don’t know what’s so controversial about wanting him to grow up a little.”

One is a post about drunkenness and lack of commitment. Another is about immaturity. It’s b.s.

olofsson is a pure left winger, not gonna happen

right now if it's not sam on rw

it's nylander, thompson, okposo or someone not on the roster

- homiedclown

Pretty sure Olofsson has played both

Eichel is not a superstar, I don't know why people consider him one.
- SABRES 89

I would agree with this. I'd classify him as "pretty darn good" - almost great, which is fine by me. His only problem here is that he's not Connor McDavid. If no (stupid) lottery, then McDavid is ours. Jack is certainly our best player (for now), and we shouldn't be nit-picking at his game or personality. Who cares what kind of person he allegedly is ? As long as he keeps producing, he can do whatever he wants on or off the ice, in my opinion.

Duchene- overrated

Karlsson- ❤️❤️❤️ He’s the guy

Malkin- too old

- jdfitz77

EK has too many miles on him. He’ll be a good signing for a team that can win in the next 3 years. Then he’ll be a broken down wreck for the next 4 years.

Idk why this argument about Eichel is even being discussed???
It’s so dumb

Would he put up better numbers on a better team, surrounded by more talent?
Of course

Does he also need to improve on many aspects of his game, and probably grow up a bit?
Well yeah, that’s true too

He hasn’t lived up to his “generational” billing yet
But that also doesn’t mean he can’t continue to get better

Regardless of all this crap...
he’s not going anywhere,
not anytime soon anyways

So just try to enjoy that we’ve got a budding (not yet) superstar...
While also realizing that he’s not there quite yet,
and has some work to do...

AND THAT ALL OF THIS IS OK

Gotta keep building the rest of the team around him

In any pro sports league ... you sign players based on what the market dictates.

Eichel at 10 mill a year was post Mcdavid / draistal deals. He fit in the middle.

Okposo at 6 million was par far the course that summer with other free agents like backes lucic Erickson

Or skinners potential deal at 9 mill a year. His deal is relative to the stone extension.

How about you move the guys that stink not the ones that carry the team
- gerbe75pts

Yes, absolutely.
That is EXACTLY what I said, "trade Eichel"
Holy christ you obsessition with him is disturbing.
You are right, he is absolutely perfect in all aspects.

Yes or no, John Jack is best sabre in 10-15 years?

That's why I like him.

Super exciting in person, when he isnt playing, the games are completely boring.

He brings speed and excitement.
It's an entertainment business and he entertains nightly

- Boss34

Sure.
Does that then mean he has ABSOLUTELY NO GROWTH in his game?
As a leader?

People need to read better and not take criticism of a young player still developing as some form of hate.
Ridiculous actually.

Why does that matter?

It’s not a trade for Pasternak or trade for Laine situation

Pasternak is definitely not available
Laine might be

Comparing Laine to Pasternak has absolutely no bearing on whether or not we should or shouldn’t trade for Laine

- jdfitz77

kid said laine was going to have all these rocket trophies

so do I need to consult with you before I post who I think will get them?

so you can't expect your young captain, face of the franchise to be a little more mature, and play a little more D

maybe he got the C a little early

could have easily given it to pommer or bogo for a year or 2 and then pass the torch

Jack partying leads you to say he received the C too early, then your option is the King DJ?

Stop overthinking, the organization needed an overhaul after GMTM, it’s not on Jack, Sam, Risto, Mitts or Dahlin. This is clearly Jacks team, I will admit it’s on leadership to create an identity which IMO was Housley’s failure.

It is absolutely ridiculous in here.

Question was asked what should a $10m player produce.
Answer was given as 100 pts and solid 2-way play.
Additional clarification was given that as Captain, I expect more leadership.
I also added was that he is young and developing his game and leadership skills.
That's it.

Then Gerbe extended it to say I was saying trade him.
Good God, talk about a complete fabrication, fake news...just plain stupid.

Ya, he is overpaid right now for his production, 2 way game and leadership.
In 2 - 3 years I bet he will be underpaid...it's called development.

How that poop storm of Matthews comparison, and what if he played on other teams started is beyond me, and frankly I couldn't care less about it. I also don't really care about drinking and partying on, until it affects production and leadership. The later is what tends to take a hit...I believe Ralphie-boy will help in that regard a ton.
