I think you need a certain amount of stupid to even imagine that much stupid. I haven't crossed the minimum amount of stupid threshold.

The impressive part is how many times he's made himself look like a complete moron on just these two pages, and that he still keeps talking. That's a special kind of stupid right there.

What else is Toronto trading away to a team to pick up Marleau ? 3rd or 4th round pick maybe?

Why would Marleau waive to go to a rebuilding team?

His family apparently is moving back out west I think? So to be closer to them. Add in his cap hit though (yes real dollars will help), and it becomes a potentially difficult situation.

The question I have is, how does retained salary work when the cap hit and real dollars are at play, with a 3rd team?

Could they flip him to say... the Sens, who would retain a large portion of the cap hit, but obviously avoid the real dollars, on the condition he is traded to a team out west?

The thing is, nothing is really close to San Jose, unless you consider a 90 minute flight close. That would be Vegas or LA.

I mean if you're the player and you really want to be home with little money left you simply retire if the team doesn't want you? I do believe the cap hit would remain the same for the Leafs due to the 35+ contract.

To me, that seems more plausible then anything else i've read.

Oh Leaf fans. Marleau is going to waive to be traded to some bottom feeder he never played for to go out as a... No one? Bum?... Wake up. Unless a real contender wants him he's a Leaf. Deal with it. The club overspent and didn't plan. Reality...

Awesome how you’re talking down to Leafs fans yet this is likely what is going to happen.. but I guess we’ll see.

A lot of great content this weekend. No comments about Game 3 despite a promise of more to come. Then a single sentence today, which was the top headline on TSN the night before. Maybe Ek was busy or something.

Lots of chatter because its been all over the major media outlets for days. Great "roomer" Ek. So how come your so-called sources didn't tell you about Zaitsev? That's been out there for days now too?

Take note Johnny Toronto as in 5 years this classy organization will be dumping you off as well. Contracts mean nothing to this team.

*6.25 milly so yes it'll be around 1-2 million that you will have to eat possibly more given that Marleau has fallen right off. Nobody wants to be paying guys to play for another team styll

You already paid Phill the Thrill to win 2 cups in Pittsburgh and are still paying him for another 2 years along with Horton. For a team that's strapped for cash I don't think it's in your best interests to be paying players when you have Little Mitch who's going to command north of 10.5 million and other guys like Johnsson and Kapanen who are also due for substantial raises

Very likely, hopefully the latter but I think a 3rd is the least they'll have to give.

I heard that LA is trying to get rid of term contracts to try to rebuild their team on the fly. The deal I heard was that the Leafs would trade for Alec Martinez and that the deal includes Marleau going to LA. Not sure what they would have to add to get Martinez who has two years left at $4million but this gets the Leafs another top 4 dman to help round out their defenders.

Probably yeah. If a rebuilding team with no use for the cap space can fill a roster spot (and probably even a top 6 given they'd be rebuilding) with a $1M player who is well respected AND pick up a mid round pick, of course they're going to jump at the chance.

It just has to be a team that is west coast, to make Marleau himself happy enough to waive the NTC.

There will be a couple of trades, involving guys like Zaitsev, Marleau, and maybe Connor Brown, which will really piss off all the anti-Leaf fans that have been frothing at the mouth.

Toronto is not strapped for cash. Give your head a shake, they are one of the richest teams in North America. They are strapped for cap space. Learn the difference. Makes you looks less thick.

Ek's sources have led to constant rumours about Kadri, Marner, Gardiner...but then Zaitsev and Marleau hit the front page news and his source didn't even give him a hint. Neither player were on the rumour chart. Seems strange. Maybe Ek's source is only plugged in to half of the Leafs team??

If Marleau can get here with a cap number under $3M I would think he would be welcomed, but TML would have to find another team willing to eat $3.25M in cap space. AZ makes some sense since they would only have to pay him $1.25M in actual money and would get to apply all $3.25M against their cap to help get to the floor. That will require quite a sweetener from Toronto though. Interestingly if PM does return, I would think that increases the chances of JT19 coming back for one more year.

Toronto and Philadelphia are talking. I'm hearing it's not Schenn for JVR
Iginla to the Bruins - done *then quickly deleted*
Eyes on Carolina
Ovechkin to the Preds
Malkin to Chicago to be the man

Over time you get used to this sort of stuff.......
