West Philly is like most of Pittsburgh; they just stopped putting money into it. |

After the less than stellar season from Laine and reports of a chronic back problem, the Jets are talking bridge deal. Laine's agent is floating the offer sheet threat to convince the jets to talk long term or be forced to match an offer sheet which will be long term.
Last time I checked, players who "want out" of a city generally don't go after long term contracts. |

It's just grammar, not rocket science (or does the twitter crowd not explicate anymore?) It should have read 'maybe some has', however, is clearly linked to the previous thoughts about the alleged disconnect between players and coach beginning to be public knowledge. - 2.0
I'm glad this was not directed at me since I don't have twitter. |

Laine and his agent want a long-term contract because they know what I know, Laine is on a downward career trajectory. If he believes in himself, he would take a bridge deal and prove to the world he's a "generational" goal scorer/player. Laine does not want to put in the work required to become an elite hockey player.
I do hope though I am wrong about him. |

I would rather the Jets go out and offer sheet Marner. Give up our four 1st round picks, then have another team offer sheet Laine and take their four 1st round picks.
We would get a better player and in all likelihood, better draft positioning. - TheUltimateJet

Okay. Now, you just pony up $12.5M for 7 years and hope Marner wants to sign it. |

Well, you have said this all along. I hope you are wrong as well but his work ethic is nothing to get excited about when you compare it to Scheifle and how he has went about improving his game and physical self.
I am not arguing with you on this one. |

That Marner has a terrible taste in cities? - eichiefs9
you mean his dad, you know, the decision maker in the family, like Ma Lindros back in the day. |

this doesn't solve our 2nd line center issue but has sound reasoning behind it
but for the record, a 5 year deal at 10.5 per only costs, 2 firsts, a 2nd and 3rd rounder. this is the type of deal I could actually see an RFA Signing this year with another team. I do believe though all the teams will match it but will not be happy about walking that player in to UFA status like the Leafs are doing with Mathews |
|
|
|
also when it comes to offer sheets lets remember both Tkachuk and Selanne signed them with other teams in Jets 1.0 and we didn't hold it against them. |

Then an offer sheet is an utterly stupid way to do it because if matched the player is stuck. |

I agree we should offer sheet Brayden Point instead! |

This I would do!!! Not sure he’d sign it to come here but Tampa will not want to pay him over 10. |

Imagine the line-up:
Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Point-Roslovic
Vesalainen-Copp-Appleton
Perreault-Lowry-Little
This assuming we don’t erroneously sign Tanev. |

Just trade Laine for Malkin 1 for 1. I like the odds of the Jets winning the cup in the next 3 years with Malkin as our 1B center vs having Laine as a second line winger. |

In usual Chevy fashion he will quietly work behind the scenes and then there will be an announcement, Laine is signed, then Connor is signed, then Copp is signed etc. The only big player that could be traded is Trouba due to rough negotiations with his agent. - islansjet
The part about Trouba in your comment is BS. He doesn't want to be in Winnipeg for the long term. He wants to go to the USA and be closer to his fiancee. His agent has nothing to do with that. The odds are high that Trouba will be traded this summer like it or not. |

I am so sick of hearing of offersheets. And who wil give up a bunch of 1sts for a one-dimensional player? |

I would do this trade in a heartbeat. I believe that Malkin has at least 3 more 90 point seasons in him. Former Hart, Conn Smythe, Rocket Richard and Art Ross winner. Guys like that don't grow on trees. He's the same age as Wheeler and if we believe in him, why not Malkin? |
