Ottawa took Daigle over Pronger, Kariya, Niedermayer and other good ones. Happens to the best of them.
Are you calling Ottawa "the best of them"? |

Could this be a precursor to a trade involving Trouba for Patrick and a #1 draft pick? |

Well, it can't work out worse than Hamhuis.

I don't know, Ryan Parent for a 3rd rounder was pretty decent. |

They're not moving Patrick, that's the whole point of this trade. |

Lots of chatter about a sign and trade. The Jets are NOT in on this trade. But the Habs, Leafs, and Pens are. Also possible he goes to a Western team. Keep an eye on Nashville. But Philly still the team to beat here. More to come. |

His "job" is to drive traffic to his site and make money from ad revenue so the hoards of morons that think they're owning him in the comment section are really just putting more money in his pocket - eichiefs9

Hearing from a legit source that if Hayes stays in Philly then Simmonds probably isn't returning. But Hayes + Ghost for Malkin is still possible.

Remember when the Flyers passed on Miro Heiskanen, Cale Makar, AND Elias Pettersson to draft Nolan Patrick, just because his Uncle used to play with the guys doing the scouting? Good times, that. - Za Warudo
How did the Flyers pass on any of those guys when Partick was Ranked #2?....... Not one team out there would have selected differently |

First of all, I was in need of some action on the Flyers front so I like trading a 5th round pick for a 6 foot 5 (55 point) guy who is heading into his prime.
They will sign him as they have plenty of money to go around.
I like the idea of lifting the pressure off of Nolan Patrick. He will be good in time but to be a 2C on a team expected to win at 20 years old might be a bit much.
Could you expect Simmonds numbers from Hayes? Maybe. They are very strong up the middle now (assuming he signs)
How about Ratcliffe with him at 6 foot 6? Maybe they can draft the 5 foot 7 guy at no. 11 and make it "the odd couple" line?
Last year, Hex missed out on a 2C and I think a 5th rounder is a good risk to make sure that doesn't happen again. |

This isn't directed at you, but I find it aboslutely hilarious how so many people here bashed the Brock Nelson signing at $6M when he's 6mo older than Hayes and has nearly identical career high point totals, yet Hayes is liable to get $1M, maybe more, than Nelson did |

Has the rumour chart been updated for Hayes? Philly's chances just went from 0% to 99%. Guess the sources didn't tip us off this time.
Still 1% chance of sign and trade. |

Oh, please. That silly game.
It was pretty much consensus that year it was supposed to be Nico or Nolan, with everyone else far below. The Flyers were going to take whomever wasn’t grabbed by Jersey.
Doesn’t always turn out that way in drafts. Often the best players were not the top picks. - Hesh_
“The Consensus,” huh? You mean the consensus formed by scouts that played with Nolan’s Dad & Uncle. |

Nelson is a very good comp here.
MOREOVER he is gone thus Hexy's problem from last year. Sometimes you just need to make your move and in this case (early).
I like it.

The idea that forum "trolls" sit here and second guess NHL picks is pretty silly.
Who was picked before Michael Jordan in the NBA?
How many No. 1 overall NHL picks didn't end up being Sid or McJesus etc... Most.
The simple fact is: when picking in the NHL you are looking at TEENAGERS who are not physically developed fully and nowhere near mature as people. They won't go to college. They will be expected to go to cities HUNGRY to win and expected to perform with the best in the world at a very early age. The idea that many fail or disappoint is pretty understandable.
I am not trying to discount the value of the NHL draft which is HUGE in the salary cap world however let's cut these GMs some slack. Do you really know that Cale Makar is going to be Nick Lidstrom and that Nolan Patrick is Alex Dailge? No. Only time will tell. (BTW: I really like Makar but I would have picked Patrick too) |
