Wasn't suggesting Lee would be gone, just that between Nelson's $6M, Duchene hypothetically at $9.5M and Barzal probably up around $8-9M (really depending on next year), that's a lot of money invested in centers.
Hard to project the cap situation just based on how many players still need contracts but I imagine the team could still add a forward and keep Lee if they wanted to. - Ben Shelley
true!
should make for an interesting summer .. great read Ben! |

I think Kadri could be there for the taking and I think it might be fun to experiment putting Ho Sang on a line with him. They play a similar style and it could be a win-win. You would have to add a defensive conscience like a Komorov to balance the line but it could be fun even if you have to move Ho Sang over to the right side. I think a guy like Hickey or Mayfield and a 3rd or 4th round draft pick could get the deal done. |

I just want Marner to sign somewhere else so when he plays there and they BOO him it should be a riot. |

Glad to see a realistic expectation. Pretty annoying to see people coming in at 7 over and over again |

With the (unfortunate) signing of Nelson he becomes the second line centre, which eliminated the possibility of signing Duche(ane). In a year and half Nelson / Lou will be lambasted for this albatross of a signing. Barzal needs a winger to replace Eberle in the short term (Bellows, Wahlstrom still need to learn how to play Trotz hockey so give them minimum 2 more years of seasoning) and hopefully they can sign Lee. But they still need a top flight winger. |

Ok, so your opinion is that it was a bad signing.
What would you have liked to have seen done that would've been better? |

I love the people bashing that deal saying "Lou overpaid for Nelson".
OK, so Nelson was probably the 3rd best natural center to be on the UFA market behind Hayes and Duchene. Duchene isn't signing here, not a chance. Hayes is only incrementally better than Nelson, is only 6mo younger, and has a near-identical career-high in points. He's going to get at least $500k more than Nelson, probably closer to $7M total.
I'm all for swinging for the fences, but the Isles haven't landed a marquis UFA in...forever? I'm not putting all of my eggs in the Duchene basket and then being left signing some bargain-basement idiot for more money than he's worth to play center for us. |

Nelson was a must signing. Duchene is a very long shot with the Isles. At least Nelson has proved he can play well with Barry as coach. Isles can now focus on getting the wing for Barzal. |

"Lou will be Lambasted for this Albatross of a signing." ... lol.. seeing as he would have gotten more on the open Market I am guessing He would have been lambasted a lot more if He let him go and we failed to sign Duchene or Hayes. |

I think if Lou is going to make a move on anyone on Tor, then he should make an offer sheet for Marner

I strongly disagree with this as far as Nelson goes, not much out there and he played very well this year |

Give nothing to Toronto as his contract is up, I'd offer him more than Toronto is just so they have to match and screw up their cap - 22bossy
Well if you make an offer sheet for 11 mil and Toronto doesn’t match you owe them 4 1st rounders. Still making an offer? |
