He did very well as a #1 C? He played in 81 games and managed to score in 8 of them, maybe your expectations of a #1 C are different from mine
- obie

He scored 12 times (I didn't check 5 on 5 which may be where your 8 gs come from) but put up 53 points on a line with some of the best possession numbers in the league while defending against other teams top lines. Played top line minutes against top lines and had a positive goal differential. He also kills penalties effectively. So yeah I'm not saying he's an elite top line C like Crosby or McD but as of today he is a successful 1 C and the best C the Habs have

Are they gonna trade Rielly for Petry?

Dermott? Doubt they'd do it but...

He had a hat trick and two 2 goal games, that's why he only scored in 8 games, I didn't say he scored 8 goals.... he's not the best C they have, and that will become more and more evident in the very near future.... he put up lots of helpers playing with the teams 2 best scoring wingers!

No thanks.... I'll keep Petry

And how is Toronto absorbing the Petry cap hit exactly?

funny because at the end of the season he did get a few pp oppotunities. and then the pp clicked!! simply because he won the face off. I think you're too hard on him, in all due respect

He had 4 PP points last year... and I don't think I'm being too hard on him, I actually like the guy... but if Anaheim for example, agrees to cough up Lindholm but Danault needs to be included, you say no?

Because they have value, especially at his age

What if instead of Danault or on par with Danault they ask for Suzuki or Poehling? You say no to moving one of the would be rookies who both may end up in Laval?

I think you're ahead of the curve. maybe in 2-3 years when kids are ready. playing C in the pro is not an easy task, especially the way Danault does it. for now habs need him big time. and that's maybe. if kids turn out to be good 2way c which is not a given.

Hell yeah I say no, and the fact that both those guys have far more value than Danault right now, says that I would be right to say no!

Meh, imo he's a decent second line center, his point totals suggest as much. He reminds me alot of Plekanec. Do you really think he's better than Domi?

You're right, I am ahead of the curve lol

2-3 years from now? Domi is already ahead of Danault at C, Kotkaniemi not far behind...

I'm not suggesting who has greater theoretical value, my point is that there is no way for the Habs to know what they're getting at this point from the rookies both this year and over their careers, where as they know in 2019-2020 to a relative degree what they're getting with Danault. If adding a LD to try and compete this season, giving up Danault makes competing this season more challenging. Trading one of the rookies is likely easier to predict success this season than trading Danault. There is a lot of value in being good right now vs. having potential to be good eventually

Plekanec had 5 straight 20 goal seasons following his rookie campaign, 29 his 3rd year... Danault can't hit 15

So when making significant trades its important to only have the upcoming season in mind?

Only? No. But the time value of assets is that the assets that can be used immediately are more valuable. So yes the immediate future and success of the team is important, without question

I meant more so in style, but yeah there is no way in (frank) Danault is anywhere near a good first line center.
