would rather see them trade Weber

Not happening, I'd be on the fence about it but we both know it's not happening

He's just making the offers go up. It's going to be Rangers folks

Yeah...didn't looked into it, but I'm pretty sure Karlsson's agent is Pat Brisson. That guy uses the Habs every summer to milk interest to one of his clients

Not sure Karlsson needs that though...

agree. because without this information he would have had trouble attracting interest on the open market.

Not happening.

I think they would get something good for Petry anyway. Not that I expect any of this to happen.....but Bergevin has to look into this.

EK is a free agent. No need to trade assets for him.
- deadpoulet

Their cap flexibility is an asset though.

just not sure how you add a third monster contract for a 30+ player. it's not like Karlsson alone puts them into contention. but it's a better team if Karlsson replaces Weber. but i do agree that i don't see it happening.

there are worse places than Ottawa. gets a bad rap because it's sandwiched between 2 great cities and looks like crap in comparison.

I think adding Karlsson could potentially put them into contention, not too far off anyway... and still have a fairly impressive group of young players on the team and in the system

They have to work on that left side of the defense. A little bit more skill up front (most likely a RW).

But it would make mtl a better team. Agree.

and if a few of them turn into players, you'll have a tough time maintaining that core in a few years time when they start coming off their ELCs because you have $30 million locked up in 3 old farts.

When did a guy who turned 29 a week ago become 30+?

Nashville may want to get Weber back at some point. Are they not screwed big time if he retired?

Karlsson can and has played LD. Signing him while not ideal for LD would solve that top pairing issue. No need to trade Petry, it just opens up the option if opportunity exists to make the overall roster better.

If medical signs off and he wants to sign in MTL to me this is a no brainer and creates a legit 3 or 4 year window...but some people can't have nice things

So signing anybody who is 23 or older to an 8 year deal is automatically a bad idea as they'd end up 30+ by the end of it? Got it

The new CBA will no doubt have a penalty free buyout included... and the Habs prospects are not the superstar variety that go from ELC to 10 million dollar contracts... add in guys like Drouin, Petry, Tatar, Alzner, Danault, Byron and Shaw who could all create large amounts of cap space in the coming years.
