I would rather they play Shaw over him. Unless they take Alzner back. - deadpoulet
You read my mind, that's what I was getting at exactly... I read that the Flames are willing to take a contract back, the article went as far as saying that they had talks with Edmonton about a Neal/Lucic swap... Alzner is a much easier contract to digest! And the other stipulation, for me anyway, would be that one of Kylington or Valimaki be part of the deal, with Montreal obviously adding as well, and it would more than likely be Kylington

I did not take a look at Neal's deal, but I think it's a long one.
It's easier to take a guy with one, maybe 2 years max. Habs may not have cap space forever.

He's got 4 years at 5.75... but you do it if you believe Neal can turn it around and give you close to value for at least 3 of those years... it wouldn't be like the Armia situation where they bought out Mason, they would try and get Neal going in the top 6, all while shedding the 3 years of Alzner and adding Kylington... probably sending a F or 2 back as well... but you're right, if Neal can't get back to his goal scoring ways, you're stuck with a pretty ugly contract

After taking a look at both deals, it may make some sense for Montreal. Alzner is at 3,5 for 3 years still.
Calgary would not save all that much if it went down, but it would be easier to buy out Alzner if this is what they want to do.
Maybe later on in the summer, depending wha'ts happening in the UFAS market?
Don't forget that you need to give a raise to Domi next season, among other things to consider. Look at Toronto and Marleau.

Oh no question, if Domi repeats, he's a 7+ player
But like you said, if you minus Alzner in the equation, you're only taking a 1.15 million dollar risk over the next 3 years, the full 5.75 the final year but you can buy that out fairly easily at a reasonable hit if Neal struggles
The real target here is Kylington...
What would your first thoughts be if this trade went down at the draft....

Neal & Kylington for Alzner, Lehkonen & a 2nd - obie
I don't know Kylington. Pretty good propsect? Can Neal play on the right side?

Yes Neal has played the right side most of his career I think... and I'd be lying if I told you I had the complete low down on Kylington, mid 2nd round pick, just turned 22, mobile LD, scouting reports and Flames' fans speak pretty highly of him, but Calgary is loaded on the left side.

Ok. I don't know if I would trade them a second in that package to get it done.

I'm not convinced either lol just throwing sh!t at the wall, exploring some possibilities... the outcome of that particular trade would mostly depend on what became of Kylington, and we probably wouldn't really know for quite some time... if he becomes a mainstay on the top 4 for years to come, its looked at as a great deal... if he just passes through without making any real impact at all, it was a sideways move at best that cost them a bit of cash and Lehkonen.... Neal putting up 20 goals in the first 3 seasons would be an added bonus!
I'm old câlisse. don't know why my right thumb hurts, like strained but for no reason. - fidopro
Your right thumb eh? Could be worse I suppose... besides, it's hard for me to feel sorry for you here, half my right thumb was crushed off almost 20 years ago, its been sore ever since...

I'll sit on it.
and no the Neal. we already have to many forwards. where are you gonna play Suzuki if they trade for Neal?

Where Neal plays is entirely up to how he plays, you think its impossible that Neal could find himself ahead of Shaw, Armia and Weal? Who knows what went wrong last season but again, the point was more about acquiring Kylington, not Neal... I also said Montreal would probably send 1 maybe even 2 F back... and then there's the Alzner money gone, also a plus.... is it ideal? No... could they make it work and come out on top? Maybe, like I said, depending on Kylington

meh, if they're gonna trade a few forwards I'd prefer them to get a LD ready to play top4 minutes, not a prospect.
EDM is looking for wingers, maybe we can get Nurse or Klefbom
