So no to Karlsson? - obie
Yes if we trade Weber for a top-6 winger
which won't happen

No it won't... pretty certain Petry would be the one to go, you wouldn't do it that way? |

Brodie isn't very good on the left side though, actually he started being bad when moved on the left side. Why can't we just move EK to the left side if this rumors has any leg? Deal shaw and buyout Alzner - Habsody
Shaw was good last season. They may need him on the right side. |

Call me crazy but I like Petry at 5.5M more than Karlsson at 10+M.
Especially since Karlsson's health is a big question mark. |

When healthy, Karlsson is far superior than Petry... and in this particular situation, you're locking up Karlsson at 29 for 6-7 years as opposed to almost 32 year old Petry who will be UFA in 2 years |

It all depends on the physical. That said if the physical comes back with the medical staff signing off I don't see how it's much of a question |

Not sure Petry can repeat what he did last year. He'll get older and older. His contract is almost up as well. |

Is locking up Karlsson at 10+M for 7 years a good thing in your mind?
I'm not so sure.... and I'm saying knowing full well that Karlsson is an elite player.... when healthy.... |

Stéphane Leroux's top 31 prospect.
We'd get York at #15. - Scabeh
According to Arpon Basu, Habs brass invited Caufield to lunch. He won't be there when the Habs pick, but surely they are looking at getting lower in the first round. |

I'm not a doctor, I have no idea how healthy he is, all this is obviously pending physicals, and if Drs say he's good to go, you're damn right it's a good thing |

It's not like they had two 2nd round picks with which they could've taken DeBrincat a couple of years ago anyway.... |

A player can be "good to go" and still remain injury prone.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be super excited to see Karlsson play for the Habs..... not convinced he's the best way to spend that kind of money though. |

Only 21 as well. Defensemen take a lot of time to develop usually.
Romanov in 1 year (in theory). |

$8M or so in unused cap space the last two seasons combined with ufas generallu not wanting to go to mtl seems to soften that blow, no? |

How many star players choose Montreal as UFA's? If Karlsson is seriously considering or hoping to play here, how do you not make it happen? |

Yes and no.
We need to keep in my that Max Domi will need a new contract in 20-21 which should end up with a big raise.
Then the following year, you have Gallagher, Danault, Kotkaniemi, Petry, Tatar, Poehling, Suzuki, Juulsen and Brook.
Now I know some of these players are likely to either get less money or leave but some of them should (hopefully caused by great performance) be looking at significant raises.
Grabbing Karlsson at over 10M not only stacks up your right side on defense (where most of your interesting prospect on defense play, as well as your current top 2 defensemen) but it doesn't solve the problem on the left side while leaving less room to resign our good players in 2-3 years.
I'm all for getting a star player with the cap space we have. But if we do, I'd rather see us fill an area of need (LHD, RW) then getting another RHD. |
