Assuming the following, who do you want the Sabres to take at 7OA? And why him? ( or is that too presumptuous)
Taken already
-Hughes
-Kakko
-Turcotte
Available
-Boldy
-Byram
-Caufield
-Cozens
-Dach
-Zegras - IonSabres
I think it comes down to cozens, dach and boldy
2 will be there
zegras and byram will be gone with the big 3 for sure |

Why is it limited to only Duchene?
There are other options. Trades, for instance. No one knows who Botts likes in the trade market. There are dozens of possibilities, so why keep limiting it to just Duchene? Is there a cheaper, comparably skilled center to be had in the trade market? I bet there is. - Powerslave
thanks to murray the assets are thin to make a big trade |

I know right.
It is so annoying to discuss the Draft that is 2 weeks away, for a 26th place team that has the 7OA pick in a stacked draft year.

Agreed, but I think you can fill out the rest of your roster with a couple kids and a couple FA's. The center is your priority, so come hell or high water, he needs to make it happen.
I think any combo of Risto, 30/31 OA ++ can accomplish your goal.
Just saying, Duchene can't be our only option. |

This is worth discussing further.
Let's ask the kraut if it is ok to do so on a hockey opinion discussion board.
Maybe he wants to talk about ground cover for his walkway instead. |

"..First off, some fans have expressed frustration on Twitter about Krueger saying they need to get “grit” and “bite” into the group and how that doesn’t jibe with analytics and modern hockey. But really, the physicality element Krueger was referring to has been missing from the Sabres for quite a while. We’re not talking about throwing John Scott or Rob Ray out there to rough people up for six minutes of ice time per game; that’s not what the NHL is anymore. But a physical player that can possess the puck and generate scoring chances is definitely the type the Sabres should be in the market for.
The tough part is finding the right person to fill that role. Kicking the tires in free agency for someone like Wayne Simmonds or Brian Boyle might be worthwhile. Even a year of Ryan Callahan, in a trade that brings other help, wouldn’t be so bad."
I know some passionately despise the idea of bringing Cally here, but he still offers a lot of defensive play and leadership. He offers a hell of a lot more than Sobotka, and both of their contracts are up at the same time. He still has some milage left, and would be a very good fourth liner with the kind of grit this team sorely lacks. Simmonds, similar deal.
You can't like Simmonds and hate Cally. Especially with the team friendly term Cally holds. I honestly believe these two players are likely targets for this team, especially after declaring that we are looking for players like these two.

Zegras seems to be moving up a bit, so entirely possible.
I agree Byram is a goner
I continue to see one of Cozens and Dach selected in 4or 5 slot.
Boldy generally after 7 |

I watched the press conference yesterday I know I am late to the party
But a few things that I really liked:
He never wants to stop learning which is nice to hear
He is a firm believer in communication something I think both Disco Dan and Phyllis both were terrible at
He understands the importance of analytics but also understands that the players have to buy in and do the work (this is where he mentioned grit and in context it was a perfect tie together)
Also afterwords when they were talking to Botts and he was asked about Skinner I think they get this done today or maybe tomorrow.
They are stupid close and I can sense it |

I'd honestly feel better about CJ Smith instead of Nylander at this point. That top line would score some goals but they need at least 1 winger to have a defensive side to their game.
Do love the Brett Connolly signing there though. Still not sold on Duchene, especially at 8+M if we sign Skinner for 8.5M. Marcus Jo is my piece there... has been GREAT for the Bruins in this playoff run and can play LW/C/RW. |

Dzingel is a LW. I don't think I've ever seen him play Center in my life. Is this a Leino move?
EDIT: I see he is actually listed as LW/C/RW. HM. |

Depending on price tag I am all about this
He can be a top 6 winger if needed but he is a good depth player that actually can contribute. I am just worried about the July 1st price tag |

I thought so as well, but both NHL.com and hockey reference have him listed at center. I'd take him either way and put Cirelli in at center and Dzingel at wing |

Aren't these different scenarios though?
I wouldn't make Callahan the focal point of any trade, rather only as a Cap dump to secure another useful, young player. I agree with the positive attributes you listed for having him on the team and his fit for adding for grit.
Simmonds would, I assume be for longer term. At 30, I'd be very leery of anything over 2 - 3 years
With Cap in line with that of a 3rd or 4th liner
