Connolly is interesting.
Las two years his shooting % was 22% and 15.8%.
Seems like he’s a good shooter, but if he has a down or unlucky year it might not look pretty |

Aren't these different scenarios though?
I wouldn't make Callahan the focal point of any trade, rather only as a Cap dump to secure another useful, young player. I agree with the positive attributes you listed for having him on the team and his fit for adding for grit.
Simmonds would, I assume be for longer term. At 30, I'd be very leery of anything over 2 - 3 years
With Cap in line with that of a 3rd or 4th liner - IonSabres
If only we could get rugged guys like a ROR or a Kane to be here in Buffalo.

jack, casey, sobotka, lockport larry
or
drury, briere, roy and connolly
but we don't need duchene - homiedclown
Duchene has never been the ppg player u project he will be here
Also... Mittelstadt, Casey
Yeah, it would be great to have 3 really good centers
But if none of them are “2way” types, that’s really gonna hinder how u match up
It’s a much, much better idea to go after a William Karlsson type player
You can’t play Eichel, Mitts & Duchene all 18min a night with 60% o-zone starts each
You’d have to knock down their minutes & play the 4C about evenly with them to take all the dzone minutes necessary
It’s not just about getting good players
It’s about getting the RIGHT players that are going to fit into a particular ROLE, and be GOOD at that role
That’s how you build a Cup team instead of a team that just disappoints in round 1 or 2 each year |

Offer something like next year's 2nd or the blues 2021 2nd plus maybe Nylander/smith for Sam Bennett. He's younger and fills a similar role while being able to score 10+ from the bottom 6 |

My brain breaks people out in tiers for some reason.
Top tier (Elite 65+ pt guys): Panarin, Duchene, Pavelski, Skinner
Top 6 guys (that can play top line w/ right lineup): Nyquist
2nd Line Guys (Secondary pieces who can pot 20+): Lee, Connolly, Dzingel, MarJo, Hayes, Mats
Complimentary 2/3rd Line guys (10-18 goals): Ferland, Chiasson, Eberle, Donskoi, Vanek, Simmonds, Maroon, Wilson, Brassard, Brouwer, Pirri |

I think Connolly fits in the complimentary line better, last year was the first time he broke the 20 goal plateau but I like him here |

Assuming the following, who do you want the Sabres to take at 7OA? And why him? ( or is that too presumptuous)
Taken already
-Hughes
-Kakko
-Turcotte
Available
-Boldy
-Byram
-Caufield
-Cozens
-Dach
-Zegras - IonSabres
If Byram is there, idk how u pass him up?
Building a top4 with him & Dahlin each on a pair would give us a big advantage over just about anyone
And being that they’re both LH,
it would free us up to use some of McCabe, Samuelsson & Pilut as trade bait to bring in forwards
And late in games if we are down 1 (& the pp),
we could have Dahlin shift to the Right Side & that combo would be deadly |

It's not lost on the GMs of this league that Simmonds is rapidly declining, and yes, Cally comes with a long term guy in a trade. |

A week later than perhaps I expected, but it sounds like the Jeff Skinner contract negotiations are down to crunch time. My sense is he’ll either get a deal done in the next day or two or head off to UFA. If it gets done, I’d presume it to be 8 years at around $9M AAV.
I mean isn't that what everyone with half a brain has been saying? |

thanks to murray the assets are thin to make a big trade - homiedclown
Lots of teams in extreme Cap trouble
No reason we can’t try to take advantage of that to get a nice break on what we’d normally have to pay |

I saw someone on capfriendly add a new name for a 2C that I was a big fan of last night.
It was Buffalo trading for Wild's Eric Staal. He is 34 with 2x3.25M left. The more I thought about it though that could be a great 2C. He has missed 1 game in 3 years with the Wild and has 65, 76, and 52 points in his last 3 seasons. In 2018, he potted 42 goals. |

You're not gonna get much for that. Maybe together McCabe, Samuelsson and Nylander gets you 1 middle 6 guy who can play on L2. Not sure who that would be though |

I am sure that Botts is going to try
However I am just worried other teams who have the cap space have more assets to give up |

Yea that one doesn't take an insider to piece together but July 1st is the day. So maybe he knows that there is a deadline that Buffalo has set for Skinner to accept or not. Also, the 9M AAV is a little higher than most had reported. Maybe they upped it to a "final offer" in the last 24 hours.

I bet we go after Donskoi. Not flashy but seriously good on the defense side.
Also our two-way center is already in the organization, just needs more time to develop. Asplund or Pettersen should be ready to fill that role in a year or 2, right? Just like Mitts will be ready to be our 2C in a year or 2.
Patience and develop from within. We are so NOT in the position to be throwing around picks and prospects for pieces yet. |

Eh not really
Everything I have seen has been between $8.5-$95
Watching Botts get interviewed yesterday after the presser he almost had a little sh!t eating grin on his face when asked about if he can get it done or not.
Almost like they wanted yesterday to be about Ralph and then they announce Skinner's deal today |

I agree it could be a last ditch effort or ..... botts gave skinner a take or leave it contract at 9 mill. 8 years.
Botts could have given him a deadline to decide. Hence bobs tweet about it getting done in the next day or so |

I posted the same thing in a previous thread. I am thinking the same thing. One of those players will / should be on the board at 7. You might not even have to decide ..... you just have to pick what ever player is left on the board. |
