Not based on stats he's not.
How many teams is he the #3 C? - RogerRoeper
He had 44 points last year... has greased some clubs wrong over the years. His market isnt huge. |

That roster got farther in the playoffs than the Leafs did. Better head coach. Better GM. |

Yes because of playin a 3rd line role with crappy wingers. When used as a #2 he's an established 30 point C. In fact he actually ranks top 30 in points by Cs the past 3 years. |

Cap space. They will get cap space. That is the point. That is huge value.
Zaitsev is a RHD who was very good in the playoffs.
So you are saying Leafs will take back a combined 10.8 million for trading Marleau and Zaitsev? - RogerRoeper
Do you realize how manh teams are looking to clear up space this offseason? Vegas is over the cap already, calgary would pay someone to take Neal, edmonton to take russell/Lucic, sj needs room for their entry guys, tampa is figuring out the lesser of poisons to lose, detroit would love to have a bad contract taken away....
This isnt 5 years ago where 10 teams had free space. |

So you believe Leafs won't clear cap space? Ok....
You will not be happy at what the Leafs do this offseason.
Let me guess, Marner's gone by offersheet! Oh no! |

He has established himself as a capable 3c. Not a 2c. He wont grab a reward in trade as a 2c, and teams are not willing to overpay in trade and contract for that. He may net a good prospect or 2, but he will also demand a contract in return.
You act like teams will just do whatever to help the leafs. But they are looking to help themselves, not the other teams. No one will take marleau or Kadri or Zaitsev without returning contracts. And the RFAs are not signing cheap. |

So that makes Isles a better team right now?
You know how everyone mentions the Leafs RFAs? Do you know how many UFAs Isles have? |

I didn't make it up. The Isles won a playoff series. The Leafs didn't. Just because it bothers you doesn't make it any less true. So the Isles aren't keeping Lee? I didn't know it was official. Thanks for the heads up. |

Nashville is looking to unload too. Paid way too much for Turris and PK. Plus gotta make room for Duchene... |

Preds are still in good shape because Poile is so good at drafting. He's always adding good young talent on entry level contracts. Fabbro being the latest one. |

Frans Nielsen. 3rd line centre. 10 goals. 25 assists. 35 points. Apparently Kadri's 9 more points makes him a second line centre. |

With 3rd C usage and TOI.... Best in the NHL. Last 2 seasons used as 2nd line C-31 goals each year.

Some people are funny. Trying to draw parallels between Frans Nielsen and Nazem Kadri. The agendas are so blatant.
And yes, the difference between a low 30s and mid 40 point player is definitely a more significant gap than some may pretend.
We all know when put in a top 6 role, Kadri can score 30ish goals, and 55 plus points. He had a down year, but that is in part because of the role he played, and anyone paying attention knows that.
As far as “2nd line centre” goes, I suppose that depends on how you define it. If put on a second line, and given second line ice, he’ll almost certainly be in the top 60 of scoring for centres. He was barely outside it this year, in a third line role, missing 10 games. On probably 20 teams, he’d be their second line centre.
That’s not really the definition I use though. Every team’s goal is to win the cup. So I like to look at building a team in that context. If Nazem Kadri is your second line centre, you’re probably not among the top 5 to 10 teams in the league. So I’d call him a third line centre.
