Eichel performed like the franchise player he was drafted to be at No. 2-overall
Reinhart finally performed like a player close to being worthy of a second-overall pick
Skinner performed like the veteran 7th-overall player that he was
Dahlin showed immense promise as a 18 yr. old franchise defenseman selected first-overall
Ristolainen scored one less point than Dahlin - Michael Pachla
And was significantly worse defensively, especially at even strength.

With 3 more minutes per game played
Give Dahlin that extra 246 minutes of ice time and I would bet he would have hit 50 points in his rookie year
Not sure if this was mentioned or not but it really stood out to me that Ralph Kreuger was all alone on stage during his press conference. I think Bylsma and housley both had people with them. To me that’s a sign of strength for our new coach and speaks volumes to me.

except for what I expressed in the post. Simmonds and Cally offer, at this stage, about the same 5v5 points. However, Simmonds will provide a lot more on the PP. If you're taking in either player, it's for bottom 6 and/or 4th line roles and for leadership. - TheSabresTaco
Callahan has 57 even strength points in the last 4 years
Simmonds has 56 even strength goals in the same time frame plus 60 assists.
I want zero to do with either player on this team but I rest my case with again one guy can still play hockey, the other is useless.

The argument, to me, isn't who is better, but the only reason a team acquires Callahan is to get another asset or two that is good in order to clear cap space for Tampa that Callahan is eating.
So any argument has to include the other asset as well imo.

Why is Schiefele coming over like it was some cheap hit? Lol.. Laine had the puck and his head down in the middle of the ice. McCabe didn't even lower the boom into the guy...

sure he was...but every defenseman had troubles in their own end...risto also lead the team in even-strength time on ice the last four years and was placed in the most difficult situations...
i'm not going to argue that risto is on par with dahlin...nor will I argue that he's a top-pairing d-man either...phil Housley coached the way he played--offensively gifted, defensive dolt...to dismiss that is an injustice

This team can't keep the puck out of their own end.
I fully recognize Callahan makes too much money. But he's still useful in a defensive role. Again, I'm trading for him only if we make the trade similar to the Teravainen trade.

Callahan + something good
Or
Simmonds - jcragcrumple
My pause for Simmonds would be his term and maybe salary demands. At least with Cally, it's only one year, and if you want him back for a few years, his cap will be greatly decreased to fit his role, which, let's be honest, doesn't exist here today.
