Sounds like it. Did they think his price would come down? Have to think the Sabres knew they lost a lot of their leverage after deadline day. - Sabresfan-365
The talks seemed to stop or break off when it was obvious the coach was going to be fired

I doubt it, should have just paid him then, if the 8th year is the issue that's pretty bad IMO.

i think there's more to it than that. They would've been clued into the hiring process, enough to know whether they were hiring a guy skinner hates or not.
Doesn't seem like a legit reason to stall negotiations for months.

I don’t get why botts wasted those 2 chances. Not like the price was going to go down.
I don’t get why gms wait till the market is set and teams go off a certain players contract. Skinner should have been signed before stone. - Sabretooth9
If the Sabres make a fair offer and Skinner still wants to test free agency, does Botts lower his offer when Skinner comes back realizing that he is not getting $9m+ on the open market?
If Skinner walks people will come on this blog and bash the Sabres, if we sign him, they will bash the Sabres for giving him to much. I can see it now. - SABRES 89

He should. As soon as the tampering period starts the offer should go down to 7 years regardless.

Someone will pay him that
It's the extra year that gives the Sabres the upperhand
If he goes to July 1st who knows where he ends up and it wasn't about money it was about having that right to test the market

Gerbe.... this dude is now up in my DMs with Analytics charts trying to show me how Stone is leaps and bounds better than Hall. I'm in pain. - JVince11

I'm taking a survey.
What kind of salads do you think are best for summer consumption? Mayonnaise based salad, or vinegar based salad? Are the best salads made of vegetables, beans, pasta or fruit?
And in light of your answers to that, rank the following:
COLE SLAW 6
MAC SALAD 2
POTATO SALAD 3
THREE BEAN SALAD 7
FRUIT SALAD 4
AMBROSIA 1 .
SEVEN LAYER SALAD 5
COLUMBIA'S 1905 SALAD. 8
WALDORF SALAD 9
CORN SALAD10 - Der Kaiser
Mayo vs vinegar is no-contest.
Mayo's underlying numbers in fat, calories, smell and texture all are negative; mayo is worse in gags-per-60-minutes, relative sloppiness, grossness suppression, and its french-fry Corsi-for is dismal (unless you're French or weird).
Vinegar is actually good for your body to ingest, has way better possession as a marinade ingredient, unclogs blood vessels (try that, mayo!), is good for your liver and skin, and its fried-food metrics are stellar.
Another argument against mayo: watch Undercover Brother. Right, Pachs? - LandlordTom

Wait hold up...
Y’all are now blaming Botts for “not signing him earlier and now have to overpay”
Where in Mickey Mouse lane does anyone get off saying that skinner would have signed earlier or that he wasn’t trying but Skinner postponed because the injury or to see who the new coach was??
It is incredible how ppl here can spin blame to try to make Sabres Front Office staff look inept so fast.

If Skinner doesn't sign here it's probably because while he is at home studying the playbook and saying his prayers before bedtime, his Captain is hitting up another bar for last call.

it's not due to lack of trying from Botts
he has been trying for months to get skinner to sign
