According to Corsi and Fenwick ratinges 2017 was his best year. Probably because for the first time in his career he wasn't taking 53+% of his faceoffs in the Dzone.
2018 was his second best career year just tiny points lower than 2017 but his Dzone faceoffs jumped back up to 51.5%.
That is for possession and overall. |

No... he hasn't... the last 2 years according to stats have been his best years in a lot of advanced stats.
His first few years his Corsi possession numbers were in the 38-46 range. The last 2 years he has been 50.3 and 49.7.
Meanwhile his A1/60 has gotten better every year, his s/60, g/60, on ice goals for/60, etc have all gotten better every year. |

Risto just need to learn how to make a break out pass ..... easier said than done. But that would make him a much better player and save him defensive zone him.
Ringing it around the boards in your own zone is not a good play!

It is the established opinion of this board that offensive zone starts that align with his offensive skills will not make his stats better.

Yea... break out passes.... I was just reading an article that said his break out passes had to travel a further distance than any other defender on the sabres because the forwards turn and skate just assuming Risto will hit them with a 2 line pass. |

Probably the same guys that say "Jeff Skinner only scores 40 goals a year... we don't need that... don't over pay him" |

Sadly.... I remember many of us saying that we all thought Housley's defensive background and time in Nashville coaching that phenomal group was gonna be exactly what Dahlin, Risto, McCabe, Guhle, Nelson, etc needed. |

Hopefully some NHL GM agrees with you, and the Sabres can get a decent return before they figure out the truth. |

It's not complicated, but it's hard work and you need to be always active and willing to work for your gap away from the puck. The other support guys will be critical."
Krueger said he believed improving defensive structure could help a player like Rasmus Ristolainen, who he referred to as a centerpiece moving forward. |
