Yeah, now that Skinner got 8 years 72 million what’s Halls price tag now? 8 years, 84 million?

He's being overpaid by a long shot. I don't know that he would have had more than 7.25M/y on the free market. If I was Buffalo, I'd have told him "see what you can get and we'll match it".

I know he scored 40, but that's the first time in his career he did this and he's 27. He's never had more than 63 points. I couldn't believe the rumoured numbers when I saw them. It makes me wonder what Anders Lee is going to sign for since he puts up similar stats (despite being a big net front presence instead of a finesse player).

There seems to be an increasing obsession with 5v5 stats. I have no clue why: special teams are extremely important if you have a speedy team.

Ovi, Benn, Skinner, Kane, Kucherov and Stone all over the 9m AAV mark. Marner is going to get paid.

I was hoping that we could get Hall under contract for between 9-10 AAV, I think that’s out the window and 11 is going to be the minimum for him.

Skinner is not that over paid based on comparable goal outputs, it's just that eight years of that with all of the regression involved at the end is a big deal. When we resign Hall is going to be for the big bucks because the team hasn't been spending the money on anything else. Just the name of the game.

Yes, but not by much. 8x8 would have been fine.

TBH, NJ has to max paying anyone at 10M. I don't see how a team can win with these salary structures. If Hall wants more than that, I'd be more interested in trading him. Chicago is a prime example of how a bad salary structure can trip your chances of success. When they signed Keith to that extremely affordable contract, they could stack talent, but when they signed Toews and Kane to those deals, they started having cap issues.

Ray is an extremely cap conscious GM, so this situation is still intriguing. These next 30 days are going to be full of drama for this organization.

I did some research on Cup winning teams, and most winning teams paid their most elite players about 10-12% of the cap. That "might" change in the next few years, but I doubt it will.

Skinner had been slumping for a couple of seasons. A career high 63 points, at 27 years of age, is pretty scary to commit that much term too.

Difference between Hall and Skinner is massive. Hall possesses the straight up speed and size to drive 200' plays and generate scoring chances by himself. He seems to be a one man break-out making 4-5 times a game.

Skinner is simply a pp specialist, with weak playmaking skills. 0.67ppg vs Halls 0.91ppg over their careers and they are the same age......Hall's contract will likely be comparable, but the value is much better.
I am very happy the Devs did not get to ink Skinner if that is the kind of money we were looking at committing.

Now, supposedly the Ducks are looking into buying out Perry!!!! 2 years at 8.625M is alot of money, but the Devs could easily take that hit. Perry could still be a 50+ point RW, not to mention all the other intangible that pest can bring to our squad.
If the rumors are true, and they are that desperate to shed his contract, we could probably steal a decent prospect as well..........

I'm not disagreeing that Skinner got overpaid but this was always going to be the outcome for a bad Sabres squad and Skinner is like 3rd in goals scored over the past three-four seasons. Hall will make not that much more and will be much more worth it, for sure.

Ducks would have to retain some salary and put in a sweetener.
