Probably because they left one of the sh*ttiest teams for better ones. - Marwood
Vantel defies his own logic. He wants to trade a dman who put up similar numbers in less games on a way worse team for a dude who barely put up respectable numbers on a way better team
Hmm, I wonder what will happen to both of their numbers when they swap teams?
I guess we’ll blame Edler, Hughes and Stecher once Tanev badly outplays Zaitsev and say that they held back Zaitsev |

Zaitsev played 81 games and had 3 G 14 pts was +2
Tanev played 55 games had 2 G 12 pts +3
I'll take the guy that can stay healthy - VANTEL

Need extra bodies for long playoffs is correct.
Zaitsev might be an actual upgrade over current Biega and Schenn.
It comes down to the value that you can get the player before. If the value isn't going to hurt the club at all why not have three 4-6 right side defenders and choose from the best. - manvanfan
My take is our left side is where our best talent is & finding RHD to compliment is JB’s angle. I don’t see another choice at this juncture & will stay open minded on the topic. |

His issue is injuries though, when he plays he’s a top 4 dman. Zaitsev’s issue is not being a reliable defender on a good team.
I know which castoff I’d rather have - Nucker101
Was Gardiner not his partner? If so it’s hard to have his back & not be a scape goat. |

I am saying Zaitsev has more value because he can dress for games and actually play even if he plays poorly.
Tanev has a hotel suite in the press box . Who has more value a guy who can play or a guy who can't . |

I think he wants change for the sake of change since he’s tired of seeing the team suck.
Tanev for Zaitsev is a step in the Oilers 2.0 direction |

That might work but I would probably switch the D first. |

Yup. Although it would guarantee a high draft pick and a new GM. |

Benning needs one more draft and one more year of developing prospects and I think we will see what being patient has done for the team. - manvanfan
Lots riding on getting top 6 wingers to make the big show & produce. RHD as in Woo have nobody in their way if they can step into the top 4. Still shows how we need more RHD with more than just potential. |

I’d prefer Zatisev to Tanev personally. Assuming they had the same contract of course. Tanev is done and I think Zaitsev could improve if he was utilized more appropriately |

If Zaitsev is coming here his contract will look better as each year passes if he can fit in. I don’t see him as a top pairing with Hughes but with say OJ on the 2nd pairing it could work out nice. |

In another year or 2 some of the defense prospects should be getting serious minutes on the big club. I can wait until then instead of taking steps backwards trying to speed up the process. |

Without knowing i’d guess Babcock had Zaitsev be more of a stay at home D man to let Gardiner roam & screw up so to have his back. That’s a poopty & most difficult spot to be put in & might show why his metrics suffered & also how bad the Leafs are on the right side. Give Z more freedom to play his game & not stymie him might raise some eye brows.
