Need more overpaid NHL talent that can help players learn. Not guys who never made it and never will.

825k for a good leader in the AHL who can fill in for injuries once in a while in the big leagues and always provides good energy even when he's been in the press box for a month?

You guys need to learn to pace yourselves. Premature drafting.

For sure, he's just pointing out that players usually go from the Vees onto the NCAA not the other way around. O'Brien is a surprise, you would think he would stick with NCAA competition instead of going into a much weaker league.

Hard to say the reasons but no point in staying in a situation where you are stagnant. Our own Mitch Eliot is an example except that he went to major junior instead of tier 2.

OHL is considerably better than the BCHL, I'm not sure I follow your comparison.

I’m not comparing leagues so much as situations. Confidence might be lacking so putting him in a situation to succeed might benefit his long term development.
Definitely the bchl doesn’t compare to the OHL but some good players flourish in tier 2, including Cale Makar

Right, but the thing is Cale Makar, like so many, went onto NCAA and did not go back. Which is what the original post was getting at. It's not a good sign.

Canucks should trade the pick for some veteran leadership.

A forward who can teach the young kids how to put the puck in the net, because he's scored 20 or more in 15 seasons.

Veteran contracts can sometimes come back to haunt you, so the Canucks shouldn't trade for a guy with too much term left. A guy with only a year remaining would be perfect.

Needs to be a guy who has plenty of experience in the Pacific Division.

Not many guys in the league who meet all these requirements.

But if you can find a guy like that, it would be well worth it to trade the 1st round pick for him. If the Canucks could do that, I'd celebrate by opening a nice bottle of red wine. Maybe a Cab, maybe a Merlot...

Go somewhere else to peddle that old fart Marleau off.
