FWIW Pronman did a mock draft of how he thought things would go and had Vancouver picking Caufield with the likes of Boldy, Podkolzin and Newhook still available. Such a crapshoot after 2

Since we are out of the top 5 just fill the needs.

Soderstrom at 10 is fine for another RHD which we desperately need.

UFA for Bo and maybe acquire another RHD thru trade and we're good for this season.

No reason for BPA here in this draft outside of the top 5.

Git er' done Jimmy.

I have a feeling Myers will be a Canuck in three weeks. When Jim came out and said all the Dmen on St.L are over 6'2 the writing was on the wall.

Ya pretty sure Jimmy was referring to that idiot crybaby Russian Tree.

Don't want that clown here but it is what it is.

As far as UFA/trade wingers for Bo who do you like?

UFA dman?

2016 draft was very much like this one (minus the fluctuation from 3-15). Matthews and Laine were clear 1+2, the rest was anyone's guess. Drafting for need outside of the first 2 picks got us Juolevi. I know the jury isn't out on him, but i am not sure I agree with drafting for positional need, ever.

So you'd suggest we draft overagers who have hit their skill ceiling in all the later rounds? They're the best players available on the day.

wasting the last two picks every draft on overagers, or players who re-enter hasn't worked for us, EVER, so I am not really sure why management continues with this trend.

Again, that is a whole separate issue, because I don't believe those overage players, or players who were previously passed, were indeed the BPA's at that draft position.
ALSO - you're telling me that kids who were not drafted in their first year, and were also passed 5 or 6 rounds in their second year draft year, were the BPA with those picks? I am not sure I agree.

ADD - we know this specific amateur scouting staff can hit value with later rounds picks (forsling and Gaudette). I would rather they take a flyer on a first year draft eligible kid who they believe could be an NHL player, rather than a draft +1 or +2 kid.

I would too, but you can't say that they are the BPA at that draft position. I have no doubt there were kids with better stats still on the board when Gaudette was picked.

I was just pointing out it's silly to just slap a BPA sign on every draft pick when there's no reasonable to way to know who that is, you just go with who your scouting staff believes to have the highest ceiling.

isn't that almost by definition, best player available?

either way, just a different opinion/philosphy on drafting. I trust Judd.

I honestly would not be opposed to a top 4 of

Edler - Stetcher
Hughes-Myers

Trade Tanev for a forward.

That would be a much better starting D than we had last year for sure. Myers has also pretty much played the entirety of the last 2 seasons.

Judd was here for plenty of dud drafts, I trust JB. Track record speaks for iteself. Whatever directions/instruction he’s given from on high, it’s working.

Wait, so when it’s questionable moves it’s “staff” and when it’s high end picks it’s Judd? Just want to be clear.

There's a time and a place for BPA...not sure if it's this draft. Drafting BPA has never really proven to be any more accurate than filling gaps in your club. Just a different vision. Is what it is.

Petey was very few teams BPA, it’s a pretty subjective term. Soemone has to define what you are looking for in a player and set out those values clearly. I’ll give you a hint who that someone is: not Judd.
