pretty much always between 24 and 32 goals

fluxes a bit based on team and his health

clearly he was not a good fit with preds

3 year 10 mil contract

play him between the second and third line at RW

adds toughness, and honestly if you play him with jack and jeff, he would open up the ice for them

I always believe you need 1 guy on each line that is not afraid to get dirty

am I saying sign simmonds to play RW on the top line, no

but we have zero toughness on any of our lines, and he might help the culture and his drive might catch on to the others

if played on second or third line with second team pp, I can see 20 goals and 15 to 20 assists

3 for 10 would be great

So... why give him anything at all.

We need professional hockey players for our national hockey league team?

Snarl and grit.

Sounds like Wayne Simmonds to me.

Depending on Rochester and the draft is being optimistic.

Especially considering Rochester doesn't have that type of player, maybe makar?

Pachla could write an article that just says "Pineapple doesn't belong on pizza unless laced with cocaine"

And we would all be here to give him 1K comments EASILY.

This take is poor
- washedup20

this particular take is really not that far off. Simmonds, like Lucic and Backes before him, has hit a serious wall. His numbers were inflated due to being very good on the Flyers PP, but even that declined too, and his 5v5 play is tanking. Signing him for anything more than 2x3 is a dangerous proposition.

This has nothing to do with Garth.

The "then/than" thing is making me more than a little nuts.

Almost as much as the COULD OF curse.

Wayne Simmonds is -2.00 GAR (goals above replacement)

For a benchmark, Kyke Okposo is 1.1 GAR, Hunwick is -2.8 and Mittelstadt is 3.70.

"overpaying" with some fictional extra Buffalo tax would be foolish, to put it mildly.

Yes, we do need NHL players for our NHL team. Now that we got that out of the way..

I like what Simmonds used to be. But he's a negative impact player. You can find 'snarl and grit' for the impact Simmonds gives you for much, much less than 3-4M. Joonas Donskoi for example. This guy has a GAR of 11.20. For a guy who gives you 30-40 points, that's insanely impressive, and would be loads more beneficial to the Sabres than a guy who used to be awesome but is now a leech. Don't we have enough leeches? Donskoi is the guy you give 3-4M to. Not Simmonds.

I'll be the first to admit I thought he would light it up last year based on his showing in the 5 or 6 games he played the year before.

But expecting him to come in and put up 55 points was stupid on my part especially as a rookie.

But the kid wasn't a bad hockey player, he just didn't produce like I/we wanted.

I still have high hopes for him and I expect him to be a much more productive player this season.

I see. Yeah. Just, don't. Even at 1M, he doesn't help. Maybe if he was cast differently, PP specialist, protected minutes, he'd be ok. But why even bother signing him if that's how you want to play him? His perceived value is so much higher than his actual.

Stay away.
