Higher the better. I'd say that it's not a great stat to use for developing players, it's much more useful for guys that are, I'd say, at least 23 and/or have been in the league for a number of years.

Skinner is highest GAR on the team with 17.6 . Tage was -9.6. I expect that number to rise with better linemates and development.

Sobotka, however, is a fully developed player, deployed largely incorrectly, and had a -6.8. Marco Scandella, who you could argue is both developed and was deployed mostly correctly was -5.50.

Again, the eye test told us that these 3 players performed poorly, and it shows in the stats.

Ryan Kesler was the worst player in the league when it came to being a positive impact. A whopping -14.1

Good players on teams make average players look good, let that sink in. Compher, Zadorov, Lemiuex, all the other players Murray traded, we would be in the same place we are now with them. We have enough average junk on this team.

They cheered for him as he exited, as a sign of respect. The cheer during the game was heat of the moment and the raptors scoring off a fast break.

Edit: they chanted his name while he was exiting, treated him better than Ive seen sabres fans treat their own players

Risto for example. We all know by just watching that Risto is great on the PP and not much else.

His PP GAR is 3.00, his overall is 2.80. Which means every other facet of his game is damaging to the team. Utilizing him correctly could adjust his usefulness and actually boost that number.

I listened to a few shows on XM today, including Barnaby, nobody had anything nice to say about what we gave Skinner. It was a joke, Sabres damned if the do and damned if they don't.

Because the contract is atrocious. Was the first on here to say Moulson and Okposos contract were mistakes (day of signings) and this one is horrible too. Would suck to see him walk but paying a dude 9 million until he’s 35 is horrible cap management. He should of been traded at the deadline when he was hot. Every team that pays a horrible contract allows you to poach off players they can’t afford then. We should of went that route.

Contract was and is not atrocious, Stone set the market and Botterill had a chance to take care of this earlier but he choose to wait. 40 goals, you pay for like it or not, Sabres had no other options. Players will get paid year after year and it will go up every year.

You're right, he is average. Not sure how much more he'll develop. But average is leagues better than Vlad. Not saying we need to replace Vlad with Compher, but I am saying we need to replace Vlad, and Compher would be the positive direction.
