https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Jan-Levine/Hockey-Buzz-Mock-Draft-moves-on-ColoBuffalo-trade-Sabres-pick-in-LA-up/89/99900

The 4th overall pick was traded from Colorado to Buffalo with the Sabres selecting Alex Turcotte

The trade:

To Buffalo
4OA
J.T. Compher
*Rights to Brassard (*conditional 2020 2nd if he does not resign)

To Colorado
7OA
30/31OA
Alexander Nylander

Does anyone say no to this trade (besides Colorado)? Of course, it's contingent on Chicago picking Byram over Turcotte.

- buffalofan19

We make this trade then Turcotte goes #3!!

I am fine with the overpayment for Skinner

I would trade Risto for a top 6 winger/center and a prospect while taking a cap dump (looking at you Tampa)

I would also look to add Zucker, if the rumors are true he can be gotten on the cheap (Nylander and a 2nd)

I would look at moving the St. Louis first in a package to Vegas who needs to move salary in a package for Miller and Haula

I would also look at signing Stalman and roll out a lineup of something like:

Skinner Eichel Zucker
Oloffson JT Miller Reinhart
E-Rod Mitts Sheary
Wilson Haula Callahan

Dahlin Miller
McCabe Montour
Stalman Bogo
Nelson

- Stripes77

I'm super interested in what it would actually take to pry Zucker away from the Wild. Fenton's trades have been meh so far but they were going to get Kessel in return before the trade was declined. Does Nylander and a second really get that done?

-this board recognizes the slight (and necessary) overpayment for Skinner. We'd rather keep him for more than lose him for nothing
-Risto is the team's best trade chip to get better. In your scenario, if Risto is traded for Trouba, the Sabres win. Trouba is largely a better defenseman, and they are not the same.
-I try to move on every day. I keep a journal of how many days we have gone without moving on.
-The value Duchene will provide is much less than Skinner, and his contract will be extremely troublesome. However, 2C must be addressed.

- TheSabresTaco

I would like to see Trouba in Buffalo before we say he is an improvement. You rid yourself of Risto, you need to replace his points and minutes. Trouba is the same points but I do not know much more about him.

In addition, I agree Risto is our best trade chip - we (the Board) HATE him but can only imagine a STUD (insert name and postion) return. Risto sucks but will result in a tremendous haul coming back. I still do not understand the thinking by many.

Not sure if that's cap compliant, as I assume Okposo is floating around the press box still?

Not a big deal for me. Others around here get very irritated about the idea.

Minnys beat reporter was on gr yesterday saying how one dementional Zucker is. Overpaid and minny wants him gone. No way I’m trading nylander or a 2nd. Zucker is at 5.5 mil, cap matters

There might be some exaggeration going on here.

Risto is not great by any means, but he's also been improperly utilized his entire career. Bad minutes, bad matchups, bad deployments. His skill set is maximized by playing with very particular linemates (Pilut), very particular matchups (bottom 6 forwards), very particular minutes (18ish) and very particular deployments (offensive zone and PP). If you find a team that fully recognizes this, and is able and willing to insert Risto correctly, the Sabres can maximize his value. The 'snarl and grit' is another factor many GMs, our own included, like as well.

So no, it's not as easy as 'he sucks, let's ask for the world'. But he's no Sobotka. He has worth, even though it's not as high as an all situations defenseman.

Wasn't that Matthew Collier formerly of WGR?

He has zero cred from me after he said he wouldn't trade Girgensons for 1st overall (Mackinnon)

This team needs goal scorers

play him on the top line

Id like to think *I'm* no Sobotka, either.

I certainly don't think of *you* as a Sobotka.

It's a little over the cap by about $3 million with moving Scandella and waiving Sobotka

LTIR for Bogosian is possible to start the year but when he comes back you'll have to move Hunwick plus about another $1.2 million

Could always move Sheary and play Thompson

I'd like to have him, but not in a Risto swap. Risto should be worth a 2b center. I think a 2LW is an overpayment. It would also sure be nice if Zucker were a natural RW

Yeah, I should have clarified. I've seen that elsewhere. I don't think you're getting him for Nylander and a 2nd though. Maybe 30/31 which is (basically) a 2nd + Nylander?

I think there are some deals to be made with Tampa Minny and Vegas that would make sense for all parties involved

https://www.capfriendly.c.../armchair-gm/team/1215493

That's what I came up with but you could easily swap packages with Minny and Vegas and get similiar returns

You're probably right but I wanted to make sure

I think if you can get him for 3 years and around $1.5 million per year you're getting a great deal
