Is there a way for neither team to win the cup tonight?
I have a great disdain for the Bruins, and I'm not sure I want another first time cup winner before the Sabres.
The comments of how gutsy the Bruins are, or how good O'Reilly is, does little to excite me to see how it ends. I'll still watch, but with bated breath. |

I think we should look to Calgary to make a trade. They are looking to move Hamonic or Brody. Both RD with one year remaining. They have Neal who has underperformed and has a cap hit and term similar to KO. A fresh start for both could be good and Botts would know Neal pretty well from his time in Pittsburgh.
Bennett never really performed up to the level expected at his draft position and could benefit from a change of scenery as well.
Nylander is from Calgary and his dad played for the Flames I believe.
I would think something like:
Neal, Bennett, Hamonic and Mark Jankowski
for
Okposo, Nylander, Scandella and 30/31
Would be a very big trade, but I don't see either team being fleeced and it could help all the players involved.
Neal/Okposo = wash
Hamonic/ Scandella = slight edge to buffalo, but Calgary has too many RD and need LD. Both on last year of contract
Nylander and 30/31 for Bennett and Jankowski = this would ultimately depend on how each team views each player involved
Thoughts? |

If it happens then we would probably all find out at the same time. It’s not someone I have to see often. He knows I am a STH and when he asked if I was going to renew I told him that I wasn’t sure. He then told me what he was told by someone close to him in .Org when asked if he was going to renew. Who knows! - soljor09

I'm not sure Calgary would do the last portion, but maybe.
Would Hamonic start female doging about being in eastern US again?
They could slot him next to Dahlin to see what happens fit wise, and would then address the issue with Montour and Bogo missing games early in the season.
Depends on what Bennett wants contract wise, although as a RFA I guess they can control it better.
Jankowski is interesting.

I want to change the topic.
The major conversation in the NBA right now (other than Kevin Durant might miss an entire year of basketball) is "load management", especially after Kawhi Leonard coming out and saying that the reason he is so effective this year is that he took 22 games off. NBA superstars taking nights off isn't exactly old news, but with Leonard's comments and the suggestion that load management could have prevented, or at least lessened the likelihood of Kevin Durant's injury, it's almost a given the league is going to see it become more and more popular. It seems analytics are starting to back the theory that this is a good idea in the long term.
Do you think we start to see this in the NHL? Their season is just as long (82 games, plus 4 rounds of playoffs if you get that far). If the analytics suggest, for instance, that sitting Jack Eichel for 10 games during the year, leads to more production in the remaining 72, would fans be able to stomach it? If the league won't sit players due to financial reasons (i.e. "fans pay too much good money for tickets"), do you think we start to see stricter "pitch counts" when it comes to number of shifts or minutes played during games? The league already does this with goaltenders.
Obviously, there are pros and cons. The pros are obviously that your top players are fresher in a greater number of games, increasing your likelihood of winning those games. There is also, in theory, a lesser chance of injury, significant or otherwise. The cons are that there could be fan uproar, which the NHL can't afford as much of as, say, the NBA can (attendance, TV ratings, etc.). It would also cause a dramatic shift in hockey culture. Hockey fans love to talk about how much tougher the players are in their sport compared to others, and how they play through injury more than any other sport (i.e. Chara with the broken jaw). This would hurt that argument more than a little bit. - buffalofan19
I have been tooting this horn for years. The nhl should be 70/72 games, with more time off between games and to recover from injury scoring wouldnt take a dip imo |

Many NBA teams sit their stars for multiple games at a time. Neither league will reduce the number of games, so I think resting players will be the trend.
Hindsight is 20/20, here, but given the multitude of games the Sabres lost anyway, especially after the turn of the calendar year, how many more wins might the Sabres have got with a fresher Eichel, Dahlin, even Reinhart, Skinner and/or Ristolainen? Perhaps sitting those players (not all at the same time, obviously) for a game or two every few weeks would actually improve the team's position in the standings. |
