It's a little relieving and sad that this is coming to an end either way tomorrow. What a ride. - Yeah Boyes
Such a great season. I won't be happy unless it ends with a cup though.... |

As selfish as that is I want the cup as well but I think it’s because I have waited 30+ years for this and I don’t know when the next time it will come around for another chance. |

Two biggest were in a one minute or so sequence. Chara cross checked Robert Thomas directly in the numbers, head first into the boards in the Bruins zone. Thomas turns slightly before he hits the boards, avoiding injury. The puck comes out and down the other way and about 10 seconds later, Schenn takes his stupid boarding penalty. If the correct penalty is called on Chara, Schenn's penalty never happens. Huge no-call on Chara.
Right on top of that, Marchand two hand slashes O'Reilly's top hand just before he takes the delay of game penalty. If the appropriate call on Marchand is made, there is no additional advantage.
The two no-calls directly led to the Bruins 1st goal as they led to the 5 on 3. As I said the other night, Rask won the game. The Blues had plenty of time to win regardless of the officiating but Cassidy's whining appears to have worked imho as those were two huge no-calls that helped Boston out and there were a number of other no calls on either scoring chances or dirty plays.
Just a few others
-Acciari slew footing/tripping Schenn after his glorious power play chance which would have made it a 5 on 3
-Chara tripping Schwartz about 11:30 into the 2nd period as Schwartz is tryig to bat home the rebound on the power play. A call there on a penalty that hinered a scoring change would be a 5 on 3.
-Kuraly slew footing Maroon
-How Krug didn't get a penalty for slashing Binnington's hand after the Marchand penalty is beyond me. Crazy dirty and dangerous. Pasta and Binner glanced off each other because both were stubborn and wouldn't change their skating line then Krejci gave Binner a shot which often would go uncalled but the Krug play was dirty imho.
- Carlo slew footed Tarasenko away from the play on the 1st power play

thanks Jason...your points are well taken...I have always said Chara upon retirement should be in the crosscheck/slash HOF. If they called every penalty he commits he would be sitting more than he plays.
Chara clearly tripped a bruin player...no call. 20 seconds later he and a blues player are engaged in shoving match in front of the net. Blues player goes down...arm goes up..chara sent off. How interesting with the non call right before and at least 2 or 3 pens committed between them during their crosscheck and counter cross check festivities. Its either a no call or both go off. Indeed refs miss calls and indeed they do try to make up for it.
I can't speak to the accuracy of all your bruin non calls...I would have to go back to the tape. just to counter I think its possible to go back on every goal and stay gee if that had been called there is no goal... |

You make a good point about non-calls and the actions that occur after.
The thing that confused me about the Chara penalty, if I’m thinking about the same interaction (Chara v Perron?) is that the referee was staring at it the entire time.
The old rule of thumb was that if you retaliate, you get called for the penalty. In that instance, they exchanged probably three or four cross checks each.
This is a part of what’s so confusing about refereeing these days. They don’t follow the traditional expectations and there is no clear new expectation.
Chara breaks Bozak’s stick on a power play in game one. No call. Chara and Perron trade some cross checks? Chara penalty.
There are plenty of opportunities to look at non-calls on the Blues too.
The only consistency with these referees is their consistent lack of reliable expectations.

The Chara penalty on Perron was because his stick got up into Perron's face imho but it was a joke considering the real penalty should have been on Chara for taking Schwartz down behind the net (Schwartz had puck possession) seconds earlier (think this is what you were saying). Chara is a master at taking penalties without getting called, much like Pronger was at times.
I don't get the refs not sending two clowns off together - Perron and Chara without sending them both; Perron and Krug without sending either off (wait i see a trend), etc. If you do that early, it can send a message some of the crap won't be tolerated.
As I said the night of the game, missed calls happen all the time and the Blues had plenty of time to recover and win. Tuuka was simply better than Binner along with a few Blues being poor, Petro, Blais among the two most noticeable.
It's just frustrating on that 1st goal sequence because of the multliple missed calls that kept compounding the situation and that Boston had nothing going on the power play until it went to 5 on 3 midway through. That goal really seemed to change the dynamic of the game. Having said that, I love that none of the Blues brought it up. Can't control it, don't focus on it, play through it. Focus on your own play and what you can control.
My center ice package doesn't include the playoffs so I can't clip the highlights unless they are part of the NHL highlights or someone else clipped them.
The Kuraly slew foot is included in this clip:

I like to say there is no standard of officiating. There is no consistent standard for what constitutes each penalty. The Perron/Chara thing was baffling, almost seemed a make-up call for not calling the trip seconds earlier.
The only real issue I had with the officiating was the consecutive missed calls up to the 5 on 3. The rest of the night they were fairly consistent in pretty much letting most things go.
Some of the reason I point certain things out is that the narrative that the Blues are the dirty team is bs. Both teams are doing dirty stuff, the Bruins just have been smarter about it (head shots are always going to get more scrutiny right now than other fouls for example). |

I agree with you on all points. There is alot of chatter about the officiating these playoffs. But I need to point out I think the officials are very skilled and competent. And overall do a very good job. They also are pretty good athletes they skate the entire period with no breaks. But something is off the rails and with bettman throwing out the crew that screwed up the hand pass goal. I expect changes.
I have always thought kelly sutherland was a real good ref...but he has had a rough playoff. Wes Mcaually never a big fan. He might as well not have a whistle cuz he never uses it in the playoffs.
the blues are not a dirty team. Perron plays over edge and over reaches esp post whistle...but as a team...no.
I am no blues fan but they play a great hard forechecking team game much like the knights. very aggressive with their D.

Chief going off the rails or more mad genius?
Edmundson in, Bortuzzo out.
Thomas out, Barbashev in.
Thomas is likely injury only, leaving Blais in. |

Have to assume Thomas is hurting, otherwise not much rationale leaving Blais in the lineup over him.
Scratching head over the decision to put Edmundson back in the lineup.
