You don't know it isn't Hayes's people saying "We'll get to you when we can." And I'm pretty sure neither side is interested in exposing every text, phone call, and email to you for your approval.

Two things regarding Hayes. As some posters have said, while he might not necessarily be as talented as some players out there, the skill set he does bring makes us a better, deeper team. I would welcome the deal.

Now the deal, Hayes and his management know what the going rate is. I have to believe they are trying to get slightly higher than the Brock Nelson deal. They have probably come in at 7 years and $7.5 or so figuring we offer or counter much less. If he is impressed with the organization and area, then we have a shot.

I guess what I'm saying is another organization won't outbid us by much. It may come down to NMC. Can't see an additional year or $500K making the difference.

As AV has said, we have the ingredients to be a very good team for a few years.

Again, I'm not as worried about the hit/term as I am about a possible NMC/NTC.

How much extra should the Flyers add per year to avoid the NMC/NTC?

Depending on the length of the deal, an extra $500K per.

It is all about fit. Clearly they see Hayes as fit. Many can agree or disagree all they want. They will clearly want to play a certain way and like what hayes will bring to the table.

They have had center issues for a while now. He addresses that issue. He is going to get the 7 years no doubt in my mind. He will also get some type of no trade clause unless he really doesnt care about that; otherwise he won't sign here yet and will see if other teams will give the security of staying put.

Peeps also need to stop looking at the names of who they may acquire and look at the actual player himself;is it a fit for how the coach wants to play.

Makes sense. So instead of 6 years $6.5 it would $7.0mil?

Might make sense to do 4 years $7.5-$8 with no NMC/NTC. He gets paid and could get paid again at age 31 under a new CBA and higher cap. The Flyers could still expose him to expansion and he will not be on the roster when the youngsters are ready. Win-Win?

Yeah, the shorter the term, the better, even if they have to pay more.

Bill, what do you see them doing with Andy Mac? Whats the more likely scenario:

1. buyout
2. trade keep 50% cap hit
3. waived to phantoms
4. on opening night roster

taking a shorter deal depends on how much confidence Hayes has in himself or if he wants to move again (assuming the flyers give him a nmc). Also whatever money he passes up, can he make that up on the next deal?

If he is getting 6 years $6mil per as an example. That's $36mil total. If he takes $32mil over 4 years I would assume he could make up that difference on the next contract. Of course he could get more on a long term contract. However, I believe he could more than make up the difference if he maintains his current level of play.

It is still a gamble though. Will be interesting to see what he gets.

If he even wants to sign with a non-playoff team to begin with.

Finally gets to choose his destination, he may have his sights set elsewhere, or at least a place closer to contention.

Many variables to consider. Me myself unless philly is my top choice no matter what I listen to what others have to say. No harm at all in waiting as the contract will be there.

Philly has been below average to average for a decade now. They very well ma be not a top destination any longer.

If he doesn't sign here I'm getting a Hayes jersey made and throwing it on the ice the first regular season game. Maybe I'll make two and burn one in the parking lot beforehand as well. Not really sure.
