Calgary looking to move RD Brodie (4.6M) or Hamonic (3.8M). Each have 1 year left on contract before becoming UFA. Maybe obtain one of them as a one year placeholder until Beaudin/Boqvist are available. Could also expand the trade by obtaining Frolik for one year at 4.3M. Any thoughts on what these guys would cost.
2019-2020 pairings
Keith, Hamonic/Brodie
Jokiharu, Murphy
Gus, Seabrook

Stan does like to bring back former players. If Versteeg can return to the organization so can Rundblad.
Maybe Rostislav Olesz is available too?

If you guys could add any player in the league to the team (taking into account current state of the team and their needs, age, cap hit, etc.) who would it be? (Simply added to the team with what they currently have in place, not traded for).
Excluding the obvious elite McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, etc. choices.

Yep, with Hughes, Kakko and Byram having 1-3 locked in - 4-15 are throw the names in a hat, reach in and see what you get. - EbonyRaptor
I will not argue Byram as the 3rd pick .I think he has the highest ceiling ,but also the biggest bust factor . I really like Cozens ,and most teams are salivating for a big fast tough goal scoring Center man . It will be interesting draft . |

I think Cozens has the biggest “bust factor” among the Centres. |

I've been following the discussion regarding keeping or trading Saad. Yes he's a good two way forward who would be hard to replace. On the other hand he is probably one of the more valuable trade pieces the Hawks have.
My question is what is the Hawks long term plan for him when his contract expires in 2 years? He'll probably wants that last big UFA contract. Do the Hawks extend him, trade him within the next 2 years or let him walk for no return?
I remember when he was obtained from CBJ for Panarin, and when Murphy was obtained for Hammer, Stan mentioned the cost certainty factor. Both Saad and Murphy had longer contracts than the players they were traded for. Wonder if Stan will play that card again. Maybe Saad + for Pesce? Saad's 2 years exchanged for Pesce's 5 years.
If not traded this year, next year he will be entering the walk year of his contract like Gus this year. I would think Saad is a more valuable trade chip this year since the acquiring team will have him for 2 years.

Lets stop pining for ex hawks, because every time they come back....wait for it.....they are just awful.
Versteeg, Ladd, Campbell, SHarp, Kruger...…
This team doesn't need Frolik and his @ss hat of an agent. |

I will say this......in my top 5 live viewing experiences.....
his move on Schneider in game 6 in 2011 and blowing out his nut sack, followed by the WWE entrance of Roberta from the tunnel was AMAZING. Right up there with anything outside of game 6 vs Tampa.
If only Sharp doesn't fire the 1 timer on the PP in OT of Game 7 into Luongo's chest..... |

That might be part of it if he is dealt. Stan Bowman seems to at least think these things out in the long term like that, but I would say it depends on a few factors. Is Saad going to command a raise? It might be the he wants to stick around this time and will be happy with similar money vs a big increase like what Panarin is looking at. Does it make the team better in terms of the overall quality on the ice? I think the Hawks still see Saad filling a hole as the two way winger they can use on the PK. I think they make a trade like that only if they feel they have a suitable replacement or can pick on up. |

Anybody have any ideas why the current RFA's Sikura, Kampf, Perlini and Fosrsling have not been signed yet? Hopefully negotiations are under way and the sides are not far apart. I would think that if any of them would be involved in trade talks the acquiring team would like to have the contract terms locked in.
Qualifying offers are due by the Monday after the draft I believe. |

The factor of cost certainty is beneficial in two ways. Good for the team to have a known quantity budget-wise for X amount of years. Also good for the team as a trade chip to another team desiring that same factor, especially if they need to manage a growing cap concern.
While I like what Saad, Anisimov, and Murphy bring to the ice and think they can be part of a more competitive club, I agree that they are valuable trade assets as long as there is a ready solution to fill the roster gap that will open up if departed. |

Definitely agree. IF Saad is traded, it will have to mesh with other moves whether trades or free agent signings to fill his role.

I can't see Cozens being a bust, I think he will either be a star or a just a guy but I think his game, speed, size, shot, defense and work ethic is perfect for the NHL it's just a question of what his ceiling is. |

That would be sending them out....the deals were done.
Believe what you want....you know it everything Paul.
The fear of losing Saad and the Hawks impending derailment rivals the time Stalberg got benched in the 2013 playoffs and how Q lost the room...... |

Panarin's play has required a pay increase, but with Saad at 6 million and settling into a 3rd line role, his argument has no backing. The game is more than points, I understand that, but some would argue that 6 million to begin with was too high for him because he got the opportunity to play in the Top 6 with 3 hall of famers. |

I agree but Frolik it is exception.
Surprisingly it looks like the Hawks don't have any roster players who are represented by Octagon. But the might it they trade for Murray.
They have a couple prospects with Octagon - Highmore and Noel. |

Say what you will about Craig Button but he's spent a long time watching and evaluating hockey players and I thought what he said about Cozens is very interesting. When asked why he dropped Cozens down in his ranking, his answer was it was due to not sure if he is a center or should be a winger. He elaborated by saying that Cozens is a very good skater but he doesn't use his skating as well when he's making plays like a center would. He said he kind of slows down and doesn't make "center type plays" at full speed, whereas he receives passes at full speed very well like a top end winger does. He thinks he will be a better winger in the NHL than a center.
