Remember when Berube was suspended for calling Peter Worrell a "monkey"
Then tried to claim he called everyone a monkey. Despicable.
He'll get his tonight. Take it to the bank. - PLindbergh31

Listening to a draft podcast, Adam Kimmleman has the Flyers taking Moritz Seider, a bid D man from Germany. That’s the first I heard his name come up. Most boards have him going about #20. I was looking more at Broberg if available. D might be the way to go since the Flyers top D prospects are already on the team. - Djapana
I brought Seider up the other day, he seems like he'll have a really high floor and potential to be a solid two-way defensemen in the NHL. Has great size and room to fill out. Played well for the German National team and played all year in the DEL against men. I think he would be a really solid prospect to draft, but may be a reach at #11. Would be a good choice to target if the Flyers look to trade back |

I read that the Flyers were looking at him as a player that was nearly NHL ready. - Sinisalo4vr
I'd guess he'll either stay in Germany for another year or two and then come over and play in the NHL, or he'll play a year in the AHL and then be full time the next year.
Should be a really solid top 4 dman if he keeps developing |

It just makes me a little nervous. I remember the last time they outsmarted everybody with the #11 pick six years ago. We’re still waiting for that one to play in a meaningful game with the team. |

By not selecting a project pick like Seidel, would that be an indictment of Morin’s future with the team? |

FYI: monkey, ape, gorilla, knuckle-dragger, mouth-breather, cementhead, etc. are all chirps that were once pretty common on the ice. It had nothing to do with race. But with Worrell, it was over the line, even if not meant in that way.
Berube was called all of the above. So was Tie Domi. Also, do you think Craig ever heard any on-ice slurs specific to his partial First Nation heritage? Hint: He did. |

I didn't see Eklund's name in Bills "unquestionable sources". Is this site a "niche" media site? Honestly I don't care or put to much into rumors per say, But I do find them entertaining and fun to debate.

Tie Domi also made some ethnic/racial slurs against Sandy McCarthy, and then...well, we all know what happened. |

id assume his nick name “chief” is related to his heritage as well? or is it just a commonly used hockey nick name?

Hard to fault a guy who has been so injury bitten, yeah it was a reach, but we'll hopefully see this year if it was worth the risk. I really hope Morin goes out and shows he's a NHL defensemen.
I don't think Seider is much of a risk, he has a high floor and a good ceiling, and is already playing in a professional league. But #11 is still probably early for him |

Thanks for setting the record straight Bill. Nothing is worse than trying to apply today’s over the top PC to a prior time and place. That is what is really despicable. |

Just to follow up, this was what Brian Burke had to say on the matter:
"Even accepting Mr. Berube's explanation of what transpired and that Mr. Worrell is satisfied with the explanation and Mr. Berube's apology, the remarks cannot be ignored," said Brian Burke, senior vice president and director of hockey operations for the NHL. |

Agreed. I mean, if they did that, they may start removing statues of people and banning iconic songs from being played. |

Ek has some legit sources. I know because he connected me with a couple of them. Rumors are a niche, yes. But HB is more than rumors. It's a collection of writers who are all over the map in terms of experience, professional credentials, degrees of objectivity and degrees of writing skill. The only commonality is a love of the game. |

That is how things actually work within this business. I've done it now for 23 years, and the one things I've discovered above all is that the closer you inch toward the inside, the more you realize how little you actually knew before of what goes on. You also realize that you STILL only know of a fraction of what goes on within the next, smaller circle and even less than that at the epicenter. - bmeltzer
That is unless a team with a particularly clueless GM somehow allows a film crew into their high-level trade discussions.

Yes. Chief is related to his heritage. He doesn't mind the nickname at all. Nor did Bobby Taylor. Other guys don't like it, especially nowadays. |

The suspension had everything to do with race. However, Berube apologized, explained that he didn't mean it in a racial manner, and Worrell accepted the apology and forgave him. But since they were taken a certain way by Worrell, he was suspended for a game.
For example, if my kids are jumping around on playground equipment and I call them monkeys, it's clearly because of what they're doing, not because of their skin color. But if there are black kids there (sorry PC crowd) with them, I know I may not be able to say the same thing because it could be misconstrued as racist. So yeah, even though Berube didn't mean it that way, he should have realized it could be taken that way, which is why he was suspended. |

Bobby Taylor, a name from the past. He’s still doing the pre-post game shows in Tampa. Has to be about 75 and still looks great. Boy did he ever make the right move leaving Philly when he did. Still sucking up the sunshine and I suspect playing lots of golf. |
