Trade discussions will heat up in the days leading up to next weeks draft. Mentioned Vancouver’s interest in Nikita Zaitsev last week. Sounds like the Oilers have some interest as well. |

Do they have any holes at wing?
We could provide them with a veteran presence...great with the kids...who loves the west coast... |

Brings great intangibles, plays his own game and takes it one shift a time.

So what say you folks, happy because Marchand cried, or sad because the Leafs are the #1 losers in the league with longest cup drought? |

To be blunt about it - now that the organization has shown that they care to improve and approach it the right way, I'm not as concerned about the cup drought. I don't know if this current incarnation will win it - but unlike the last 40 years for the most part, I don't know for certain that they won't. |

Just watching the US Open, and I kinda get why the Marleaus want to return. |

this.
there has been bright spots along the way and there's definitely hope and some expectations now....
was glad the Bruins didn't win simply because I don't think they deserved to be there... similar for SJ had they gone through... the Leafs being eliminated by the Bruins isn't part of the equation for me...
hopefully the Leafs management, realize that they can't pay middling players big dollars when they want to have a group of highly paid top end guys... and won't handcuff themselves for those guys that aren't defference makers
I believe we'll get a good idea if Leafs management knows what they are doing in the next two-three weeks. |

So how much would a team pay Marleau and be ok with it?
Here's how I look at it. If he stays then Brown's 2.1 gets tossed out and replaced by a guy making $900k so the Leafs would be paying 6.25 + .900k for those two slots (I said slots).
If Marleau goes then Brown slides into the top nine and is replaced on the 4th line by the guy making $900k.
So scenario one is $7.15 milly for those two slots. Scenario two is 3 milly for those two slots plus whatever portion of Marleau's contract they had to swallow.
So, is Marleau attractive at 4 milly on a 1 year deal to say SJ? If so the Leafs eat 2.25 milly and just saved almost 2 million in cap space. |
