We went 3 months ago. Stayed at the Riu Republica which is 2 resorts down the beach from the Hotel Murder.
Had fun though. Also, didn't get murdered. - Khmylev

I was just surprised some people seemed really happy to see him go. The guy is a great player. I think there were probably other places to look for issues with the team than at him regardless of his comments.
We had Leafs fans a couple years ago not wanting to trade Kadri for him ... WTF? - Aetherial
I was one who said the should explore moving him. I also thought they would get a lot more back in a trade.
They got a c prospect and 2 cap dumps. Also the last pick in this years first round.
I have no faith in Tage Thompson, IMO he is another Mancari, Adam, Fasching.

One very long post in coming:
I love to see Marchand cry...f him
Anyone that thinks Botterill is on the hot seat because a player they traded away won the Cup and was the Conn Smythe winner better get their heads checked. This trade was nothing about this season or even next. It is about the future. Yes he lost the trade if you're looking at it now. Hell he probably lost the trade in the long term but it won't be by as much as it feels now. It's time to get over it.
Don't forget it took firing their coach, a fist fight in practice, and a rookie goaltender to get the Blues from the last place in the entire NHL to making the playoffs and a bunch of good bounces along the way for them to win it all (Cup winners need luck). Let's not pretend that ROR was the saving grace of the Blues. He was on a 90 point pace and they were still in last place. It just proves you need to build an actual team to win in this league.
ROR was not much of a factor during the first two playoff series and finally brought his game to a different level when it mattered the most. Good for him. I don't think anyone has seen this type of ROR play when it mattered the most.
There is a reason he didn't work out in Colorado and Buffalo and a reason he has worked out in St. Louis. Not to get into more of a p!ssing match I will let you form your own opinions of why that is.
Now that the offseason is finally here there is much work to be done. It starts at the draft. I think we see 2 draft day deals. One for a top 6 player and perhaps one to move up in the draft (either back into the teens or move up to 4)
This fan base needs to stop worrying about other teams and just look at what is happening here. You will probably feel better off in the long term. |

All I am going to say is that I am so f'n proud of Ryan O'Reilly. Dude has scrapped and clawed on 2 terrible teams for years. He had a hard time losing but when he finally got the chance at success on a well built team... he thrived in the moment. ROR is my favorite player in the NHL today and I am happy I got a chance to see him wear the Sabres sweater but even more happy that he got to win a cup.
oh... and F*CK BOSTON!! - JVince11
That's the whole point here. St. Louis was already well built when they got him. Buffalo and Colorado were built poorly, using him as part of the foundation. O'Reilly is a piece you go out and get once your foundation is set. You don't use him as your foundation like Buffalo did.

Botterill should very much be on the hot seat.
That said looking at this team, IMO you are looking at next year being another awful year, barring drastic changes.
Needs
2-3 top 6 forwards.
2 top 4 d-men
Clear out bad contract. (Thanks Berglund for helping) |

Why would I be happy for a team that is not the Sabres to win?
The Sabres got completely fleeced in a trade that sent St Louis to a Championship.
That’s what I am pissed about. I’m pissed that this team wasn’t good enough because it has had poop GMs for a long time.
The Sabres are a joke currently, that is what I am pissed about.
The Sabres have a long long way to go to even be close to playoff contenders let alone cup contenders.
But congrats, I guess?

This team has clear needs and we know that
That shopping list is pretty long and frankly the Sabres don't have the assets required to get all that's on the list.
I think a lot of people don't realize how much damage GMTM really did to this team |

Also this whole We traded ROR for cap space is such BS.
The Sabres only clear 1mm of space if Berglund doesn’t quit.
It is Just another narrative to define one of the worst trades in Sabres history.
ROR will have 1 year left on his deal when he is supposed in decline.
Also my favorite is now “we would have never won with ROR here” - ImThatGuy
They traded him away because he wanted to be traded. |

Maybe try raising your expectations for this franchise?
But hey just get close to the playoffs and Sabres fans will be happy, right?
Buffalo sports teams have been so bad for so long that fans expectations are so low |

Ugh, leading scorer in the playoffs?
Playoff MVP.
Scores in 4 straight finals games, only other player to do so is Gretzky.
Yeap didn’t help at all.
St Louis should probably trade him for two cap dumps a C prospect and a late first.

Losing ROR absolutely hurt, but the guy clearly wanted out of Buffalo. People are just but hurt that he won the cup and MVP. Good for him. |
