I don't agree with this. Its not like the old days where they could just throw the most money at a guy.
If the Blue Jackets (using your example) have more cap space, or more importantly, have a better cap structure that lends itself to signing a big contract, they would have the advantage. This goes for any team.
The Flyers are in a pretty good spot to be able to do that now thanks to Hexy. And I am of the opinion that they shouldn't waste it on on the first shiny thing that comes along, especially if they have to resign all the shiny RFA's they have currently and in the near future. - MBFlyerfan
My point is that the Flyers aren't as much of a destination team anymore. They can't just expect to give the best offer and win the bidding. Remember Lecavalier choosing them over 5 other teams with competitive offers? Obviously it didn't work out, but he CHOSE the Flyers.
It's just my belief that the team has some reputation rebuilding to do |

Kind of embarrassing if Hayes doesn't sign - PhillySportsGuy
Kind of embarrassing to post that it's embarrassing if Hayes doesn't sign. He is a UFA on July 1.

The posts being made about UFA's are not wanting to sign with the Flyers are just asinine. UFA players have earned the right to sign where they want to. The obvious reasons are they want to win right away, family and geography considerations, and of course, they want to get paid. Not every team can click all the boxes. In a few years when the Flyers, hopefully are one of the top young up and coming teams in the league, they will be in a primo spot where UFA's want to play. |

Always thought it would be funny if they traded JVR again 1 year into his deal - PhillySportsGuy
He'll be mailed to Abu Dhabi in a box long before his contract is up. |

Agreed, I think he fit better. Gudas is a good D but this is an upgrade and brings cup experience |

Yeah, if you want to win, you're probably not gonna choose the team in the middle of a rebuild.
If you want stability, you're not gonna go to the franchise that's traded/BO'd/buried everybody who's signed a long-term contract in recent memory. |

There's your vet top 4 - J35Bacher
So now we can start discussing the pairs.
Provorov Niskanen
Sanheim Myers/Hagg
Gostibehere Morin/Hagg
Still need to figure out the AMac situation and whether or not Myers and Morin are regulars. Who sits etc.
Going to be am interesting training camp/off season to see if any more dmen are dealt for forward help.

He was the only minus Dman on the Caps last year and has clearly lost a step. Gudas is the better and less expensive player. |

Not a bad player, but kind of a sideways move.
If this means Ghost won't be traded, then it's worth it? |

Why would the Flyers be retaining 30% of Gudas' deal?
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman added that the Philadelphia Flyers will retain 30% of Gudas' contract. Earlier, it was stated that Washington was looking to acquire Shayne Ghostisbehere from Philadelphia for Niskanen, but the Flyers countered with Gudas. |

Gudas traded for Niskanen - MBFlyerfan
I like it.
Gudas had a good year when matched up against 3rd/4th liners. Niskanen is a more legit top-4 D, and is also a RHD. |

Damn it Clown.
Can't have physical players.
Can't have dynamic offensive players.
Can't have size.
If it's not a team of 200 foot players then it's going to suck.
(I'm actually with you on this move when viewing it in a vacuum) |

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Morin will be a more continuous physical presence than Gudas, health aside. |
