Why would the Flyers be retaining 30% of Gudas' deal?

Glad it was Gudas and not Ghost but I still don't think I like the deal. I don't think it's terrible but I do think Niskanen is declining, paired with higher cap hit and retaining portion of Gudas salary.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Gostisbehere is either traded for a forward or he's on the 3rd pair.

I think Myers will be in the top 4.

I'm gonna go out a limb and saying that trading Ghost when his value is at an all-time low is a worse idea than seeing if he can rebound this upcoming season.

Miss on Q. Settle for AV.

Likely miss on Panarin/Duchene. Try to settle for Hayes.

There was no missing on Q. He was never available to the Flyers.

The Flyers shouldn't be going after Duchene. Panarin doesn't likely want to play on a team not ready to contend.

Niskanen upgrades the top 4 for now.

Whatevs. If it’s the Niskanen that can rebound a bit that’s great. If he continues on a decline it’s a disturbing move.

Agreed, I think he fit better. Gudas is a good D but this is an upgrade and brings cup experience

Yep, and I felt that was laughable. If Provorov/Ghost had even average seasons, or if Myers and Sanheim has been deployed all season the way they were after Hakstol was hired, he would have finished a distant 5th.

He had the Nick Schultz, "I didn't suck as bad as everyone else this year because of how I was used" success.

I’m ok with it. It’s not some wonderful trade. Jury is out if we even upgraded. We very likely took on a bad contract. We’ll see how he looks maybe he was hampered by something last year. They had a short summer

Can Niskanen be a calming defensive presence on the ice? Because that's what is needed. Too often the other teams pace and good passing gets our defensive pair and the on ice forwards running around in a tizzy.

More than a few Caps players had down years after a long playoff run. Gudas was nice 4/5 but Niskanen is a legitimate top 4.

Niskanen being traded for a role that was slated for MacDonald. But because he sucks and is a sunk cost that role has to be filled.

I have no issue with the trade other than the money retained, but they can easily absorb that.

Here's a crazy idea: let's see him actually play for one or more games this season and see if last year was an anomaly before we burn down Fletcher's house.

Caps just got more physical and harder to play against. We got a 25 point minus defenseman for nearly 7 mil on this years cap counting the retained cash
