The Flyers tried to do what it takes vie trade/free agency how many times in the Holmgren GM era? I don't care about just being relevant. We were relevant for 40 years. The Blues were further along than the Flyers are now.

A year ago the Blues missed the playoffs and the Flyers made the playoffs.

What about Hagg and 2020 first?
- ClaudeFather

I'm not sure that gets it done. Toronto needs defense yes, but they are probably looking for someone better. At least I would be if I were them.

I think it is an extreme over statement to say that about each one of those years " they damn near won a cup." Remember, that was mostly in a non salary cap era. You may be glad that Hextall is gone but if this team goes anywhere in the future it's going to be because of how Hextall set them up.

Trying to buy and trade their way to the Cup is a mistake.

- MJL

I agree with Hextall setting us up for the future VERY nicely. Making the right and strategic signings and trades is the name of the game right? But I agree, you can't just trade and sign to win a cup.

Ok on to fun and unrealistic trades proposals.

To FLA - Ghost, Patrick, 2019 1st
To PHI - Barkov

I agree for the most part. However, the last five years of stacking the pipeline were an absolute necessity for this franchise. They were about 10 years behind most of the NHL in terms of prospects until Hextall arrived.

This offseason they absolutely should be aggressive. They need to complete this roster with NHL level players.

I am not saying it wasn't needed.

I am saying that now it needs to start pushing forward.

I am tired of hearing we still aren't ready and need more time.

If you took Zaitsev contract off them it might work. They really want to lose that deal.

I was surprised Pietrangelo didn't hand the Cup off to Lehtera.

Dont think he cares much as long as he’s invited to the afterparty

So a player on an ELC? Their cap room is the issue, it is going to be tough to get a good player back and saving cap. All the GMs know what position Dubas is in, they shouldn't be doing him any favors.

But this is the problem. Everyone wants to get but not give.

The blues gave up 2 first rounders for Schenn.

The blues gave up a 1st rounder, a 2nd rounder, and very good prospect in Tage Thompson and two depth players for O'Reilly.

The Bruins moved a good prospect in Donato for a depth player in Coyle.

You have to give to get. A Micheal Raffl doesn't bring back the impact player people want.

- J35Bacher

One of those first rounders was to pay for a completely useless player who still had two years left at $4.7m AAV and was owed $9,700,000 in real money.

I agree. If they do not acquire a 2C and a winger this offseason I will be disappointed.

Maybe Friedman would make more sense as part of the deal? Plus a forward prospect and 2nd/3rd rounder.

Uh huh, but Kadri isn't worth as much as Schenn + taking Lehtera was.

The Leafs will move Marleau. I don't think they will trade Kadri.

Probably but I don't want to swap Zaitsev for Ghost. Probably won't find a Kadri with the 11th pick so I can see it evening out.

Would anyone consider trading Ghost and the 11th to move UP in the draft? Maybe target the 5-8 range plus get a roster player or high end prospect back?

Totally agree. I'm don't know about getting another "Top 4" Dman like others have mentioned before. If Sanheim, Myers, and Morin can hit the weights, they can be formidible with their size and ability.

If Toronto took Haag and a 2020 1st for Kadri I'm all over it. I don't want to do them any favors either, I just don't think they do that deal.

Kadri is worth more than a 4-6 Dman on a very small cap hit and a first rounder assuming in the 18-22 range, and the team is in a cap crunch? I think folks are over valuing him and more importantly the Leafs situation.

I still think the right move is moving Voracek.

I know what he brings but I feel he isn't a 8 million dollar guy and feel with the right deal you can still be a playoff team without him. Also i feel Lindblom will be a 20 goal guy next year and Konecny should be a 20-25 goal guy.

You make the right deal and you can gt a little younger but still bring players to fit this team and maybe lose some money to go else where.

Because of the Leafs cap situation maybe that is the goal of moving someone like Kadri...getting rid of a unwanted contract in the deal.

Losing kadri opens a hole for the Leafs though.

Just like people don't want to move Gostisbehere, Kadri fills some big needs for the Leafs.

They can't just give him away.

I understand your reasoning, but in my opinion I would try to address bringing in a 2C and another forward, before addressing Jake in a trade. If not, that would be yet another hole to fill.
