Why are people so obsessed with trading Ghost when his value is at the lowest it's ever been?
- jmatchett383

Because that’s when people feel they can accept the loss of the player. No one wants to trade someone when they’ve been great the previous year (barring extenuating circumstances).

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on goal potential for our line-up. Not what they've done in past seasons, but what we should realistically expect them scoring. Obviously lots of factors in play but my opinions are below. Potential additions in (). I missed a few names that we may have been linked to;

30 Goals= G, Coots, JvR,
25 Goals= TK, (Duchene), (RNH), (Nylander)
20 Goals= Jake, Lindblom, Patrick, (Hayes), (Kadri), (Zucker), (Kappanen)
~10+= Laughton, Raffl, Hartman, (NAK, Frost, Bailey, Phantoms)

Nope. See your first line for why.

Maybe Montreal is selling high. Could they maybe see that Domi just had a career year and might not hit that total again? They move up a little in the draft and also get a defensman, which i read they are looking to bolster, who maybe they feel can bring a better impact for them.

Flyers move back a little but Domi could fill a center role or maybe you play with Patrick on the wing. He also brings an edge to his game and good speed and skill.

I know it was mentioned previously and I'm now starting to warm to the idea of trying to sign Joe Pavelski on July 1. Brings instant leadership and would help the team. I've heard he would like to stay on West Coast (rumors) but I like what he brings to the table and hope we pursue him.

I like him but he is 34. I don't think he is leaving the west coast.

Zuccarello would interest me as a good vet signing.

Agreed. Zuccerello would definitely be a great addition if we got him.

If you don't get Hayes would you take a run at Anders Lee. Year older at 28 but another big center.

Maybe you get him on something like 5 years at 5.5-6. He's coming off a cap hit of 3.75

I know I am also going off the board a little bit, but what do people feel about Ryan Dzingel?

I originally didn't like this idea of signing Pavelski because of his age but we could probably get him at a lesser term but similar cap hit to Hayes. But I think him wanting to stay on the West Coast will be the deciding factor.

Wouldn't mind Zucc. Wouldn't be opposed to any of the names we have been mentioning or hearing about. That Montreal rumor (Ghost for Shaw and Byron) was just stupid. BUT, I wouldn't mind Bryon, just not for Ghost. Great speed and would fill the 3rd line wing spot.

I believe Lou is set on resigning Lee. I've liked his game for the past few seasons.

This should be interesting.

Cole Caufield is my childhood friend's cousin. I will be watching the draft with much anticipation. His grandfather, Wayne Caufield, played for the Milwaukee Admirals among other minor league teams. He recently passed away and won't get to see his grandson get drafted in the first round. Cole's father, Paul, was an outstanding scorer at UW Stevens Point (NCAA D3). Hopefully his size won't keep him from going early. Kid can flat out score. I've seen him projected as high as #4 through #15.

Joonas Donskoi actually is interesting to me as maybe a 3rd line winger. Productive and consistent player for San Jose

If Hayes doesn’t want to be in Philly screw him. He isn’t a superstar, as a role player, he needs to be committed and happy. Especially when philly fans start booing him. I’m already over him.

Said no team ever that actually wins the cup.

Listen I understand your thoughts but sports don't have 5 year plans anymore for the most part.

Results matter. The Blues traded for Schenn 2 years ago and then went out and got O' Reilly this past offseason. They signed Bozak to solid money. They've been aggressive. I appluad them.

You keep saying that the time isn't right and waiting for the window to open but maybe you need to open the window yourself and make things happen.

Said most of the teams that actually won the Cup! LOL

Blues are the example, they went out and made moves after building the team to the point where a few moves could put them over the top. Can't rush it. Young players are going to develop at the pace that they're going to. When Provorov, Sanheim, Patrick, Konecny, Hart, Myers and a few others are ready, that's when the Flyers should look to free agency and trades to bolster the team. That's when you have a clearer picture of what your needs are at that point. What the needs are now could be completely different than what they are then. Keep the flexibility.

When did I say "they damn near won the cup every year"? Here you are going all MJL again. Regardless, all I'm saying is that Hextall refused to entertain trades of the draft picks or prospects to fill the gapping holes. He knew going into last season that there were holes - didn't address them or should I say didn't successfully address them. He's gone and I hope that the current regime will do what it takes to upgrade/address the holes and if it means trading a pick or prospect so be it.
- RustyPipes

Right here. LOL

"True, but just about each one of those years the Flyers were a tough team, competative, and damn near won the cup"

Hextall stated that he was not going to trade the future or draft picks to try and win now. He was right to do so and I believe the team moving forward will reap the rewards of that. I'm not interested in becoming a better playoff bubble team or just winning a playoff round to suit the STH fan base. I see a bigger picture.

A year ago the Blues missed the playoffs and the Flyers made the playoffs.
- Feanor

It's a very competitive league. You can be a good team and miss the playoffs. You can be a great team and lose in the first round. You can win the last game of the season via shootout to make the playoffs and go to the Cup finals.

I really think trading Ghost will be a huge mistake. If we trade him for Kadri, I'm concerned Fletch will then throw money at Gardiner to fill the hole that Ghost left, but Gardner is not nearly as good

I agree with this view on where the Blues were as a team. We have been talking for the past 4-5 years of trying to trade with the blues to get Petrangelo and some of their other players...when we hear other teams talk like that about us then we know we are really in the window...I still think it is a year or two away to see how some of the kids develop to know what we really have...but I think it would be wise to add some of the parts this year becasue you could catch lightning in a bottle like the Blues did...
