Why would Washington do this?
Are they making a push for Karlsson and need to free up $$ and a spot on the right-side in their top 4? |

Per CapFriendly:
#Flyers retaining 30% of Gudas' cap hit & salary means Washington has cleared $3,405,000 in cap space as a result of this trade.
The $1,005,000 that Philadelphia is retaining on Gudas' cap hit almost makes up for the $1,150,000 bonus overage the Caps have for 2019-20. |

Speaking of bad trades... Mr. Kempny last season: 6/19 and a +24.

Hopefully Niklas Nordgren turns into something. They used the Kempny pick, along with another to move to to get the talented Finn. |

Head scratcher.. Gudas has as much value as a bag of pucks in today’s NHL. Seeing the other posts it has to be about cap space. |

It would not be a stunner if WASH used some of this newly-created cap space to re-up Carl Hagelin (pending whatever else GM Brian MacLellan is up to).

I suspect MacLellan has more up his sleeve here. |

Or trading for Gus?
Other than another dman arriving, they gain muscle but loose offensive firepower. As much as can see so far
Niskanen is a descrnt dman
Much better than Gudas |

I'm with you. If this deal is only to re-up Hagelin, then the rest of the division will be happy imho. |

Maybe I'm a homer, but I don't think Keith is untradeable like Matt suggests. His contract may have a lot of term left, but you can't tell me that there wouldn't be a line of teams willing to take Keith at 5.5 through '23.
If anything, now that Q is in FLA you'd think Keith would be one of his top targets! |

Any of you all go to the Hawks' Cup Parades, especially the 1st one?
Any takes on where is a better spot to be? - On the parade route, on the grassy knoll where they will be speaking, etc.
Also, about how long did they usually last from start to finish? 3 hours? More?
Side note - I need to remember to figure out if they are going to enforce the open container laws for the parade, lol. |

That is a serious hockey trade you proposed, with good potential to help both teams. |

Can't speak for the first parade, but seeing The Cup roll by was really something!
They keep the silver shiny as anything I've ever seen. |

Lots of fans act like he's untradable... But I think they're wrong.
I agree with you. I think Keith has a lot of value left. Still a top defensemen on the Hawks. Top 2 on some teams & 4 on most teams. His contract is also pretty reasonable at 5.5M for 4 years (with an actual salary of around 2.5M). If the Hawks retain 1M, they can easily move him.
The problem is his NMC and the fact that he's currently our best defensemen. |

I wasn't at any of the parades but had standing invitations to Ray Emery's cup party in 2013 and Andrew Desjardins in 2015.
They both fell through unfortunately. I'm still bitter about the Emery one and how that unfolded, however, that's a story for another day. |

Congrats Jason, I remember 2010 vividly and what an incredible time that was. The parade was also magical.
Not sure about the layout of your parade, but would imagine there’s a park that the players/management will end at where they will be speaking. That’s where I would try to be.
Standing anywhere alongside the parade route is fun and all but you’re crammed waiting for a while and you only get to see the busses for a couple minutes as they pass by, and then you spend the remainder of the day trying to allude the crowds on your way out.
The grassy knoll is probably the best bet, even though you don’t get an up-close and personal view (unless you sleep out there tonight!) |

Congrats Jason, and I enjoy your blogs.
I watched each of the parades on the street by my then office building near Union Station. If you're going to the park I suggest you get there early. |

Sidenote: My good friend (who is a grown man with children) wore a diaper to the 3rd because there weren't readily available porto-potties and he didn't want to give up his spot. God bless America! |

Exactly, the reasons he is tradable are the reasons we probably wouldn’t want to trade him.
