Hearing from a few sources that the Maple Leafs have quietly been shopping Garret Sparks. The backup goalie, 25, has one year left on his deal paying him $750k. - PatC80
But why...he has to have like 0.0 value |

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think of that contract.
For what Eberle can be, it's not bad. But will he be that player? - prock
Dunno, crystal ball is broken.
But he certainly can be a 50 pt player |

Problem is he's signed 29-34, so he may be. - RogerRoeper
Its amazing your trying really hard to downplay this deal, unless you have a crystal ball and can predict the future, Ebs is a diff type of player, not a banger which would hinder so lets keep up to date and lets see how this deal plays out, ok Nostradamus |

it's possible. If he does consistently hit 50 points, does that make him worth the 5.5?
Or do you think he needs more like 60+ |

I don't really care what Roeper's agenda is, but it's a valid point. 29 is generally the end of a players prime. |

Might be for the player himself. Like Z and Patty...and Marner |

More so on bangers Lucic, Neal, etc, not so much on fluid skaters but a decline can happen, we shall see |

5 - 5.5m per for 50pts seem like the going rate no? |

Eberle is a nice player - but he was Nylander prototype v0.553
0 heart and invisible most of the time - getting his points on back of his linemates (Barzal and Tavares previously in Eberle's case - before that because of Hall).
That's a bad signing by NYI. |

Statistically, 29 is the end of a players prime, regardless of the type of player they are.
True, some bangers will completely break down, but ALL players slow down when they hit their 30s. |

I'm not so sure. It's not like $5M buys elite players any more. |

It's the wild, wacky world of pro sports.
You may not like giving him that much money and that much term, but the alternative is letting him walk and not being able to replace the talent.

yep. And as I say, $5M doesn't buy you a superstar. hell it doesn't even buy you a first line player anymore. It's second line money. |

No, no chance. But he's making $2M less.
$1.5M I guess. |

Because he's older and not as talented.
6.9 for ages 22-28 vs 5.5 for ages 29-34. |

I don't care to compare him to Nylander. It's apples and oranges. RFA vs UFA, 22 year old vs 29.
I'm not sure I would want Eberle at $5.5M, but not saying I'd be hard against it either.
I'm kind of iffy on it. Even if someone doesn't like the contract, I don't look at it and think it's horrendous. |

It is obvious that Dubas has no idea of what he is doing with his signing of Willie.
...This is Sarcasm... Edited for Roger
I predict Willies deal becomes a bargain in the future.

You are trying to compare a 29yr old to a 22yr old??
http://www.hockeydb.com/i...ts/pdisplay.php?pid=96639
Eberle has similar stats at same age as Willy while playing in/on a worse team/franchise
Stop reaching, ok
Everyone will always take the younger player who produces |

I remember that.. After it happened, the players laughed uncontrollably for about 12 minutes because Nylander finally hit something.
Then, when they all stopped laughing, Sparks was standing up again and Matthews started comparing Nylander to MacKinnon. - PatC80
So you are saying Nylander is as good as Mackinnon? |

Since Duchene came into the league, he's 89th in points per game, right behind Tim Connolly and Alex Frolov.
He just had a career year you say? Okay, but he still tied for 35th in ppg.
Can't wait for someone to sign him for 7x10.5 |
