The Panthers should concentrate on strengthening their defense as they ave a great offensive team. They need to sign or trade for a big 1/2 shut down d-man to help any new goalie they get. |

Without a doubt, man. That’s what we’re hoping they do this offseason.
This column was just a fun thing to look into the fake trade proposal from Tyler’s article the other day. |

If you believe in Q and what he brings to the table, you don't move a guy like Matheson who had a bad season but has plenty of "upside". You want to see if Q can make him work his ass off, which is Q's reputation.
Panarin and Bobrovsky will be signed as F/A, and an offensive piece (unfortunately maybe Hoffman) and a prospect will be swapped for an upper level veteran defenseman. The rest will be left for Q to tighten up. |

Right there with you, PanthersGoal
I was just saying I'm curious what the consensus is on Matheson from a coaching (Q) perspective. What does/doesn't he see in him, etc.
I think he'll have a real bounce-back year under Q if he's not moved - excited to see what happens. |

You guys will be fine when Panarin and Bob sign in Florida. You won't need to worry about anything else. |

Matt - you have a great handle on Coach Q.
I think Matheson will be a different player under Joel. |

Thanks, Ty! I really do believe Q will mold him and some of the other guys into beter defensemen.
I'm a big Josh Brown fan and think he plays a style that Q likes, so I'm curious to see if his game continues to trend upwards. |

Trade proposal :
To FLA : TJ Brodie
TO CGY : Owen Tippett, James Reimer (1 million retained)
Florida gets a reasonably priced top 4 d-man that allows them to move Matheson for forward help if they want, and clear salary + roster spot to sign Bob as a UFA. They can also sign Brodie long-term for around 6 per.
Calgary gets the young goalscoring RW they lack, and a G they can platoon with Rittich at a fair price (2.4 million).
Maybe add a mid-round pick or B prospect going FLA way since they retain some $ on Reimer.
Thoughts? |

Can see Bob a Panther but Panarin will sign elsewhere. Just a gut feeling. |

Nice. It's an interesting idea for sure - especially since it would allow FLA to move Reimer.
I'm really curious what Tippett will develop into. A lot of people are high on him. But, like any prospect, you never know.
He could be an interesting piece for them.

Logs plenty of minutes, but one thing we DON'T need is another offensive minded defenseman, Good skater yes, too offensive minded.

Leafs should trade Zaitsev, a late pick, and Sparks for Matheson and Reimer if Panthers hold back maximum salary.
Everyone seems to forget that Zaitsev played a more offensive role his first year and now he has more defensive role. Either way he is a second pair guy at worst. |

Brodie is excellent on the PK, and was playing every night against other teams' best offensive units. If anything, he's overrated offensively and underrated defensively.
If what you want is a mean SOB though, then yeah, he's not your guy. Gudas would've been |

NO chance on Zaitsev. Overpaid dud with an attitude.

Jan Levine just posted a mock trade based on the mock draft (below). I don't like the idea of losing Ekblad now that Q is running the show. I think we're going to see new Ekblad on the backend next season and the big-framed Serron is getting a lot of hype.
But, I admit, I don't know a lot about Hampus Lindholm. Can anyone provide some insight into the type of game he plays defensively?
_____________
Anaheim deals the 9th pick to Florida in the trade below and the Panthers select Kirby Dach
Trade:
Hampus Lindholm, 9th pick, 29th pick and the 101st pick
For
Aaron Ekblad, Serron Noel and the 13th pick
Rationale for the trade from the Anaheim side:
Ekblad is a marquee defenseman who at 23, can help anchor the Anaheim defense through the next decade. Lindholm is a solid defenseman but his minutes and production will be replaced by the addition of Ekblad.
At 13 there is still solid talent to pick from and I still feel that some players may slip down the board.
Noel is a project but his size and goal scoring prowess will fit in nicely with Anaheim's other young talent like Sam Steel and Troy Terry.
Rationale for the trade from the Florida side:
The rationale for Florida is that they get a cheaper better two-way defenseman in Lindholm for Ekblad, jump up in the draft a few spots to potentially grab a top center and add an additional 1st round pick and a later pick as a sweetener.
Rationale for the selection:
Florida loves Dach’s size and believe he could be another Anze Kopitar.
Dach was actually 3rd best prospect on their board in the draft and are thrilled to have the opportunity to trade up to 9th overall to grab him; they cant believe he's still there. |

I know little about Dach, I've been paying more attention to the defensemen available in the draft. Will refrain from judging this trade scenario as I don't know enough about Lindholm, either. What's his contract/term like? Anyway, I don't see Tallon trading being too eager to trade Ekblad, anyway. They need to add to Ekblad on D, not just swap him out for Lindholm. They also give up the promising Noel, while ,the rest of the return is draft picks, which seems to go against the "win now"mode that the Panthers seemingly are now gearing up for. I have to learn more about Dach and Lindholm before knowing what I think of this scenario.
And wouldn't Anaheim be better off just taking Dach? I thought they need help on offense |

Agreed on your points, especially the one about picks. I thought the same thing. To me, the Cats should be loading up on dudes that can help them win now in what looks like will be a window for a potential good run.
Need to do more research on Lindholm and Dach myself. But, still...I don’t think the trade benefits the Panthers just at first glance. Again, I would need to look closer at Lindholm.

Anaheim needs to upgrade their offense, and Lindholm is their best(?) Dman. Why trade him for another Dman and not even address their offense's needs? This trade seems to make no sense at all for Anaheim, unless they see Noel as the real prize |
