So if the two draft picks we got for ROR turn into a top-6 forward and a top-4 dman in 3-4 years (or our goalie of the future), and they help lead us to our first Cup 5-6 years from now, then can we say the trade was even?
Because until we see what those picks become, there is no reasonable or intelligent way to judge that trade. It is simply incomplete.
ROR was misjudged by TM as a main player to build a team around. He was let go by CO for being a problem, let go by us for being a problem, and fell into the perfect spot to be successful on an already-stacked team. Good for him and good for St Louis.

If pick 31 can turn into JT Miller somehow
JT Miller
Thompson
2nd rounder
For ROR is far from the worst trade ever. - OneKaneOneCup
And 2 Cap dumps
(that some say weren’t, but come on now)
Still a bad trade imo
Miller is a fringe “core” player i guess
(I think we need more of a goal scorer though)
But if we’d have gotten one of their good prospects instead of Tage...
then I’d have been more on board |

Maybe, but that was tried and failed miserably just a few years ago. I'd much rather get as many good prospects in here as possible and let's home-cook a winning team. Not quick or sexy, but low-and-slow like a great rack of ribs. - LandlordTom
Good teams have important players on ELCs. |

I guess Kieffer Bellows was terrible for Bridgeport this year - OneKaneOneCup
Might be worth taking a look at?
I liked him in his draft year
Kid can score
At least he used to
Wasn’t he pretty awesome at the World JRs a couple years ago? |

I think with 31 and 2021 2nd is not necessarily looking at the past because we still have those picks that could be dealt for improvements.
And I didn't know this was ego driven. - mhp

Sabres should draft Zegras, so he and Mitts can just do spinning behind the back passes every shift, every game |

I've seen some people bring up Andreychuk, Puppa, and a 1st to Toronto for Fuhr & 5th as the worst Sabres trade of all-time. Nope. Ray Sheppard to the Rangers for an EFFING DOLLAR was worse, and probably the most WTF trade in NHL history. We also received future considerations in that trade too...oh wait, that never materialized. So we gave the Rangers Ray Sheppard for $1. Find a more strange trade than that - not gonna happen. And for those of you youngins who don't know Ray Sheppard, check out his stats here : http://www.hockeydb.com/i...ats/pdisplay.php?pid=4920
However, the ROR trade - and the Hasek to Detroit trade are the worst trades in Sabres history. Both resulted in the the other team winning the Stanley Cup - and having a huge impact on that happening.
Andreychuk/Puppa didn't win the Leafs a Stanley Cup. O'Reilly and Hasek helped win their teams Cups. |

I've been wondering why he might be our pick when we already have 2 pass-first centers and very few finishers. Im coming around to the notion of Caufield ar 7 if he is there, thanks to Gerbe. |

Spinning behind-the-back passes to a spinning Tage Thompson as he spins away from the opposing goalie. |

Lol.
This landlord has been suffering just like everyone else.
Really, though, I am trying to think of a team that traded good picks for players while they were basement dwellers and then contended soon after and won it all. Most teams draft high, have down years and growing pains, get some steam rolling, and THEN start spending 1st and 2nd rounders on good complimentary pieces to make a run.
We are nowhere near that point! |

If these picks end up becoming something,
then I’ll be happy
I can appreciate u trying to be optimistic,
but the trade undeniably sucks right now

The nhl is the least progressive league in sports. It doesnt matter how you get good players, you just need good players.
When you're wasting cap on crap, you'll be a bottom feeder.
Scandella 4
Bogosian 5.14 (wasnt bad last year, just wasnt worth the hit)
Okposo 6
Hunwick 2.25 (or something similar)
Sobotka 3.5
I dont even like Sheary at 3
We are bleeding cap. The only positive, is all but one are off the books next year. |

Friedman says the Sabres have been the most aggressive team in trade talks. One team they've spoken to is the NYR....about Jimmy Vesey.

A) many fans can't see the forest for the trees. While it looks like a terrible, ugly, abomination of a trade right now, who knows?
B) I'm happy for the fans of a city that has been waiting over 50 years for this. Grown men were weeping outwardly, and you know what? I will be, too, when we finally win it (because I want to live forever, and it may take that long 😂)
C) Ever tried Donut Kraze? That's the sh!t. - Powerslave
I’m a damn Sabres fan living in St. Louis and it brought me to tears how happy every one was here when they won. It’s a magical thing when you’re not the Bruins or Hawks or some other city who has won everything.
I was devastated when we lost to Dallas on a stupid foot in the crease. I will shed tears when we hoist the cup too. We have some work ahead of us to get there. |

That list is brutal. Like you say, it’s good almost all of them are gone after next year. That’s when I expect more significant moves from the Sabres. |
