PP is a skill, and Risto is really good at it. And his chemistry with Eichel on the PP is undeniable - jcragcrumple
You do realize that he was demoted to the second PP and that even when he was on the first PP he could not have been the furthest thing from a pp qb. The guy piles up secondary assists. |

Because the extra minutes are taxing, and he'd be playing against top competition.
If you think Jake McCabe could score 45 points a year, God bless you. I think it's analytics run amok - jcragcrumple
I never said he could. I said he’d get much closer to the 45 points that Ristolainen gets playing 26 minutes a night than Risto would 60-70 by just getting a higher % of Ozone starts.
And the numbers bear that out |

he could on an uptempo north south team that could roll 3 lines if given second team pp time
we are not that kind of team
the gm says he wants to be that team
but adds scandella, sobotka, and scott wilson - homiedclown
Would we rather be paying Ennis’ buyout cash for a few more years or one more year of Scandella ?
Botts is playing the long game, whether or not it works out remains to be seen but how many other teams can say in one year that they will have corner stones at Centre and defense and cap flexibility ? |

There are no rumors out there about Risto so maybe Botts doesn't move him unless a team blows him away with an offer. |

Your interpretation of the data and the projection based on perfectly scalable numbers bears that out. I don't think any of that is scalable because it ignores too many variables that would be affected |

He's timid. A certain trade blew up on him and now he's prepared to move no one. He's going to patch work this team into a 8th-10th place run and everyone will eat it up like he's GM of the year. |

Jake McCabe is a career .22 PPG player who never plays the PP
Ristolainen is a .45 PPG player who receives top 10 league wide PP time.
I don’t see how any logical answer can have Ristolainen’s numbers jumping to .75-.85 PPG while getting decreased ice time and PP time, as a greater chance of happening than McCabe becoming a .45 PPG player by simply adding those offensive opportunities he never gets.
It makes 0 sense |

I’m not going to make that judgement until these things actually happen.
I remember when we were convinced ROR was staying at 8pm the night he was moved |

There was smoke with the ROR trade though. I didn't buy it at the time but it was everywhere.
This one's more like all of us saying he needs to go and the hockey media saying "yeah I think there was a call once in February" |

Because he's good at it and McCabe isn't.
They're different players. This is why people don't trust analytics in a vacuum |

I get the probability he stays as a reclamation project for Ralphue-boy and Smith, in a system that is hopefully more friendly to him defensively.
To me, it stinks of trying to fix EJ Manuel, and letting A Nylander develop and mature.
In the meantime, their perceived value around the league continues to drop like a rock.
I get their desire to maximize their investment, I however see this going the wrong way. |

Yes, and the difference between a good PP D man, and a bad one, is very small.
It’s exactly why the good PP’s, and bad ones, can be a difference of a few %.
That’s why they are so close 5 on 5. Because both are actually similar skill sets
One was just picked 8th |

I like McCabe, but I just can't see McCabe ever getting 40 points. He would have to be on the top pair with PP1 time to even get close, which is suicide for a team |

Broheim, this is what I’m saying. It’s been suicide with Ristolainen
It diminishes the value of his point totals |

I disagree with almost everything you're saying about risto.
But this is true. More time doesnt equal more points.
Analytic wonder boy Goc would still be in the league.
Points per 60 is the 2nd dumbest stat, right behind corsi, the plus minus of shots. |

I think we all agree Risto belongs nowhere near the top pair. But on a good team on the 2nd pair with 60% ozone starts and PP1 time, he could absolutely put up 50 points.
You can throw numbers around all day, but McCabe will never touch that |

How can a measurement of something be “dumb”
What you take from it is what can be considered dumb.
I hope you aren’t mistaking me for saying McCabe is any kind of good. He isn’t
But Ristolainen is a below average player |
