Only reason I don’t hate it is because he scores mostly ev strength goals.
Give him some pp time and time with Jack and I feel he’s more of a 25 guy.
We need to score more goals, he and Laine point in the right direction.
Laine is going to cost in both assets and cap. That is the only issue.
Now if you can lump and Laine and Trouba in the same deal with Risto going the other way, I feel it points us in the right direction. - dadeadhead
How is Vesey ever gonna be on PP1 here though?
Jack, Dahlin, Skinner & Sam are a lock
Gotta think Mitts would be put on over Vesey
In your scenario, Laine surely would be too
Maybe he’s a 20ish scorer
It’s not like i dislike him
Just wanna go after better players
Laine would be an example |

|
I dont think he was high on him, just saying what he heard
vesey is right away our 3rd best winger on this roster
and we need to improve - homiedclown
The Sabres need more talent .... getting a 2.5 mill vesey for cheap is a good idea. I rather have vesey over Girgs Sobotka Larson or okposo in the bottom 2 lines

Never anything about 1st pp time
Said more pp time and if he’s on Jack RW even strength, yeah he’s gonna pot more. |

Well he’s a LW isn’t he?
But assuming he can play RW...
can’t we do the same thing with Sheary?
We already have him
And he’s ACTUALLY PROVEN to score 20+ goals when playing with a great Center |

Ok... maybe he plays RW
My point holds
Why not just play Sheary on Jack’s RW?
He’d improve his goal totals just like he would with Vesey
Or play Olofsson there
Or get some players that are better than just “ok” |

That's fine but it makes the most sense out of all the talk.
He still has 2 weeks before Free Agency, I'm just speculating the best trade for both teams, honestly.
Pittsburgh's model was to straight outscore the other team and they won 2 of their 3 cups doing it. Neither team has to add in this scenario and I think age and contract-wise, it makes sense to just do a 1 for 1. Opposite Conference, history of trades, and a position of need for both teams.
I think this season we will be surprised by Scandella and Bogo as a 2nd pair under Kreuger and McCabe will be the 5th guy all season while the 6th slot rotates. We need someone to fill in next to Dahlin and I have said Myers repeatedly but it won't happen and it's going to be a mistake to not try to bring him back, imo.
I am on the fence about Ristolainen. I don't think he sucks, but I do think he has peaked. He is Dion Phaneuf 2.0 and will always be a 30-50 point guy but he is as dumb as a rock when all is said and done and he has peaked as a player IMO. Even if he takes the next step and becomes a 60 point guy, he is a liability on defense and we need a solid stay-at-home type of guy in the top-4. I don't see that on the roster.
However, I do see only 1 legit goal-scorer on our team and that's Jeff Skinner. Jack can and will put up 30/60 this season and Reinhart will be good for 20/50 but after that, there's basically Dahlin to look forward to. Mitts should have a 20/20 year and I think Okposo gets to 20+ but doesn't have more than 35 points. If Olofsson and Nylander can each get 15, we should be happy but other than that, who can we expect to break out? I really was high on Tage after going to the Avalanche game last year but by the end of the season I was done with him.
If we could swing Ristolainen for Laine, I think it can work for and benefit both teams.
Watch for it at the deadline if this bit of information has planted a seed. Once Kreuger realizes that Risto is a dumb as a pet rock, he will tell them to pull the trigger on it.
Thanks for the scoop, it's nice to speculate on it. - BeadyEyedDouche

Again, I’d take Laine long term.
But Reinhart was better this year and that’s not really debatable.
Like I said that’s not really a hot take.
Laine has been mentioned in the rumor mill by multiple people for reasons. He’s a one trick pony - OneKaneOneCup
So is Ovechkin, so was Bure. |

both , that's why Botterill was just poking around, Laine thinks he's a 10 mill a year player. - SABRES 89
Laine played with a bad back for much of last year and a groin injury in the playoffs. The back is a tricky injury to deal with. The Sabres would definitely need their doctors to check him out and give the all clear if they were to agree to a deal with Winnipeg.

Do you see Caufield being as good as Marner? I get that Marner is a playmaker and Caufield a goal scorer, but do you think Caufield would have as big an impact as Marner in the NHL?
If scouts see him as having that type of impact, then you'd have to take him at #7 if he's still on the board. |

I still don’t think girgs or Larson are guaranteed to come back. As much as our top 6 sucked. Our bottom six was just as bad.
Sobotka will be back, I doubt any team wants him. |

75% of the team is playing at a higher level than they should be.
Ulmark and Hutton are both back-ups
Nelson is a 7th D
Bogo & Scandelous are 3rd Pairings at best
Pilut and Risto are 3rd Pairings who could play up when injuries occur
Montour 2nd Pairing
Dahlin is 2nd Pairing right now, hopefully he grows his D game into a 1st Pairing (braces for homer posts)
Eichel and Skinner are 1st line
Sam is a tweeter 1st/2nd...probably takes his step to 1st this upcoming season
Mitts is a 3C now
Sheary is a 3LW at best
We have no 2RW presently if Sam is 1RW
We hope VO is 2nd LW
Girgs, Larson, Okposso are 4th liners...working themselves out of the NHL (production-wise)
Sobotka is AHL or Eurpean League level
Tage, Nylander are AHL ...maybe they develop into NHL quality, a stretch to reach Top 6 at this point.
Need
1st Pair D on right
Probably 4 maybe 3 in Middle 6

That and he's part of "the trade" - which will look even worse if Sobotka isn't on the team. |

But with time he will outgrow it so trade for him now - gerbe75pts

I could give two (frank)s about getting Vesey for his abilities. I just want to see him squirm about being happy in Buffalo after declining to sign here a few years ago. |
