I’ve liked Trouba since I saw the Sunday matinee when we played them at Key Bank this year. He moves well, plays a physical game, made great outlet passes (maybe it was cause it was against Buffalo) he would fit in well on any defense corps in the NHL and the price to acquire him wasn’t as crazy as people were making it seem it was going to be. Good for the Rangers.
Good for the Jets too if they can get a middle 6 forward or 2nd pairing d-man at pick 20 that can contribute on an ELC which is going to be paramount in this age of the NHL of spending to the cap. Pionik could be depth at the position as well. |

Hence why I valued another top 10 pick this year as soon as Mid-December hit as I knew we weren’t going anywhere meaningful. - Pegullaville
I get where u were coming from
My issues with your rhetoric were that u wanted us to “tank”
I just have a problem with cheering for my team to lose... especially that early in the year

Trouba to NYR.
Edit to add official tweet from Rangers.
New York Rangers
@NYRangers
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired defenseman Jacob Trouba from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Neal Pionk and the 20th overall pick in the 2019 #NHLDraft (originally from WPG). - rcostel77
I think that shows that teams are viewing him as a 1 year rental
Otherwise, he’d have gotten more than that
Maybe NyR thinks they can entice him to stay?
Good chance he wouldn’t have wanted to here though
But it is tough to see him go for just that
Our version of that trade would’ve been something like pick31 and Pilut or Samuelsson |

I don't post often anymore due to career and other such excuses but figured I'd drop a tiny bit of info I heard tonight while out with my friend who works in PSE. We were in on Trouba but sounded like he wasn't interested in a contract extension with us so we backed out. Last offer he heard was Bryson and #31 |

Does the 7th, Risto, Mitts, and Nylander get it done for Point ??? - bobmack13
Holy crap...
that’s WAY WAY WAY too much
Point & Callahan (Cap dump)
for
Mitts & what amounts to over 12mil in Cap Space
If they want Risto, fine
But then they’ve gotta add |

I agree w others that are supposing Trouba gave signals he wouldn’t sign here long term, and if that’s true it’s better we didn’t swing a deal. |

Thanks for the info.
This makes sense to me that unfortunately some players are simply not interested in playing in a Sabres jersey. IMO, there has been alot of damage done to the Crest over the past 8 years, with various levels of incompetence on full display from the bottom of the roster up through coaches and management into ownership. It was just reinforced with the Ryan O'Riely saga from locker cleanout day villain in the blue & gold to the Conn Smyth winner in a different palat of blue and gold.
I think Botts has the ship turned in the right direction with Kreuger and re-signing Skinner. Building through the FA route could be challenging in the short-term without overpaying on top of the normal overpayment of FA's in general. Needless to say he has his work cut out for him, he may need to focus on lower level FA's this season, make a strategic trade or two and put his faith in Ralphie-boy to work his magic for a season before landing a big fish or two next offseason.

That is so depressingly true. I can't believe Botterill didn't beat that offer.
We literally could have had the best d pair in sabres history - jcragcrumple
Or Botts didn’t waste assets on a player who will walk at the end of the season for free
I suppose he could’ve traded Trouba at the deadline if he didn’t wanna sign
But maybe he’d like to use 31 to get a player he is more confident will wanna stay??? |
