Sabres and Rangers spoke 2 times regarding Vesey and also they talked to the Jets regarding Laine.
- SABRES 89

Laine, well, the Jets are going to dump and have to replace Trouba, have to replace Myers, and Buff ain't getting any younger.

Risto for Laine is a win-win for both teams, IMO. A one-dimensional defenseman who will put up 40+ a year for a one-dimensional goal-scorer who will put up 30+ a year.

please understand, botterill was just inquiring, that's what i was told. The Vesey, Zucker and Toffoli talk has more legs.

I used to love him when he first drafted, he as slowed down. Wonder what he would cost.

Coming off a bad season and a pending UFA after the season can't cost too much.

I feel like we could unload Sobotka in that deal as well. 3rd plus Sobotka for him.

He's only 27 and the Kings sucked. He'd be a good buy-low candidate imo. Plus we need RW more than LW

I could get behind a Zucker, Toffoli and another rental offseason.

Yeah, Zucker and Toffoli would help. I still think they need another center in there unless they're riding with Erod at 3C. The Sobotka experiment needs to be over. I'd feel better with Erod at 4C, personally

Idk if that is a shot at me. But I did say when word came out that Kessel turned down Minny, I said Kessel will be a Sabre.

That's where the cash for clunkers deal for JT Miller and Callahan comes in...?

That's fine but it makes the most sense out of all the talk.

He still has 2 weeks before Free Agency, I'm just speculating the best trade for both teams, honestly.

Pittsburgh's model was to straight outscore the other team and they won 2 of their 3 cups doing it. Neither team has to add in this scenario and I think age and contract-wise, it makes sense to just do a 1 for 1. Opposite Conference, history of trades, and a position of need for both teams.

I think this season we will be surprised by Scandella and Bogo as a 2nd pair under Kreuger and McCabe will be the 5th guy all season while the 6th slot rotates. We need someone to fill in next to Dahlin and I have said Myers repeatedly but it won't happen and it's going to be a mistake to not try to bring him back, imo.

I am on the fence about Ristolainen. I don't think he sucks, but I do think he has peaked. He is Dion Phaneuf 2.0 and will always be a 30-50 point guy but he is as dumb as a rock when all is said and done and he has peaked as a player IMO. Even if he takes the next step and becomes a 60 point guy, he is a liability on defense and we need a solid stay-at-home type of guy in the top-4. I don't see that on the roster.

However, I do see only 1 legit goal-scorer on our team and that's Jeff Skinner. Jack can and will put up 30/60 this season and Reinhart will be good for 20/50 but after that, there's basically Dahlin to look forward to. Mitts should have a 20/20 year and I think Okposo gets to 20+ but doesn't have more than 35 points. If Olofsson and Nylander can each get 15, we should be happy but other than that, who can we expect to break out? I really was high on Tage after going to the Avalanche game last year but by the end of the season I was done with him.

If we could swing Ristolainen for Laine, I think it can work for and benefit both teams.

Watch for it at the deadline if this bit of information has planted a seed. Once Kreuger realizes that Risto is a dumb as a pet rock, he will tell them to pull the trigger on it.

Thanks for the scoop, it's nice to speculate on it.

Vesey, Zucker or Toffoli.

Who's everyone's first choice?

I'd have to go Zucker, but he'd probably cost the most to trade for.

I think Toffoli has a double benefit of buying low and the highest upside. I don't think he's washed up at 27. And he's a RW which I think is a higher need than LW.

He would cost the most and has a M-NTC and just a guess but he probably won't waive for Buffalo. He would be my first choice for sure.

We already have a soft team. He does nothing to address that.

I would go bigger. Theres plenty available.
